The Israel/Palestine conflict has thrown up some odd heroes and villains. Who could have predicted that one day we’d have to roll our eyes at Radiohead singer Thom Yorke’s banal ‘both-sides’ platitudes while cheering on Macklemore and Imagine Dragons? But over the last few months, one person has stood out for her bravery and commitment.

Ms. Rachel is arguably the biggest star in online children’s entertainment, with her YouTube channel boasting 15 million subscribers. Her content is beloved by parents and children alike, with her using her degrees in Music Therapy and her Master’s in Music Education to deliver catchy educational songs about colors, shapes, and animals.

Or, alternatively, if you read a recent story in the New York Times, Ms Rachel is being paid by Hamas to raise a generation of pint-sized terrorists hellbent on the destruction of the Western world. Her crime? Ms. Rachel cares about all children, and her heart is breaking as pictures of emaciated kids emerge from Gaza, victims of Israel’s artificial famine.

But if they thought they could break Ms. Rachel, she’s made of tougher stuff than they imagine. In a post on Threads, she underlined that she will always prioritize kids over herself and her career, saying:

What people don’t understand is that my career & reputation will never matter to me as much as standing up for kids. ❤️‍🩹What people don’t understand is that no amount of cruel name-calling or false accusations will stop me from standing up for kids. ❤️‍🩹What people don’t understand is that I will risk my career over & over to stand up for kids.❤️‍🩹What people don’t understand is that that’s why I’m Ms Rachel. ❤️‍🩹The kids brought me here. ❤️‍🩹

Some day, the dust will settle on the Gaza genocide and a lot of prominent people will have to answer for the consequences of what they’ve said and done for the last few years. At this point, nobody can claim ignorance: the reality of what Israel has done to millions of innocent civilians has been blasted all over social media for months.

The right side of history

Politicians and celebrities who’ve either cheered on crimes against humanity or attempted to uselessly equivocate on what’s right and wrong will face a reckoning, and the history books won’t be kind. At this point, there is no real argument to be had: Israel is starving, bombing, and slaughtering innocent civilians as part of a genocidal ethnic cleansing campaign.

Meanwhile, those like Ms. Rachel with the bravery and resilience to endure slander, threats, and financial consequences are only going to grow in stature. Kids whose only “crime” is being born to Palestinian parents are suffering the worst of this, and we desperately need more people like Ms. Rachel willing to put their careers on the line and call out this nightmare at every opportunity. As she said:

“When it’s controversial to advocate for children that have been killed in the thousands, are blocked from food and medical care, and have become the largest cohort of amputees in modern history, we have lost our way. It’s my unwavering belief that children aren’t less valuable or less equal because of where they were born, the color of their skin, or the religion they practice.”

It’s telling that her critics don’t have a counter-argument to this – all they can do is smear her reputation and spin lies about her being funded by Hamas. We can only ire her standing firm against the storm being whipped up against her.

‘Can I curse at him?’: Filipino president set to make an example out of annoying YouTuber with 24-year prison sentence https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/can-i-curse-at-him-filipino-president-set-to-make-an-example-out-of-annoying-youtuber-with-24-year-prison-sentence/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/can-i-curse-at-him-filipino-president-set-to-make-an-example-out-of-annoying-youtuber-with-24-year-prison-sentence/#respond Mon, 21 Apr 2025 17:27:37 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1848535 This has got to be a prank right?]]>

We all know how quickly a prank video can go wrong. During the golden age of YouTube pranks, the name VitalyzdTv was infamous for being a general nuisance at best and a danger to the public at worst. Fast forward to the present day and it seems he hasn’t changed much, although his online antics have landed him in some seriously hot water this time.

Vitaly Zdorovetskiy recently visited the Philippines where he live streamed himself harassing of the public and security guards in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla gave a run down of Zdorovetskiy’s inappropriate behavior after he was detained at the Camp Bagong Diwa facility in Bicutan.

“Vitaly engaged in multiple disruptive and inappropriate acts, including attempting to kiss and grab him, trying to seize his service firearm, taking pictures of him without consent, mocking other security guards, and vlogging without a permit in BGC.”

In most countries the worst someone would get for such behavior would probably be a slap on the wrist, but it seems the Filipino government is seeking to make an example out of Vitaly to prevent other “nuisance streamers” from getting the same idea.

The president of the Philippines speaks out

Zdorovetskiy’s actions were deemed so disruptive that even the country’s president has commented on the situation. President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. reviewed clips of Vitaly’s antics on his own YouTube channel in a bizarre reaction-style blog. Marcos remarks, “he is crazy. He isn’t Filipino; can I curse at him?”

He went on to say that they would stand up to “foreigner bullies” who “think they can humiliate Filipinos” before vowing to make an example out of Vitaly.

“We must fight the bullies. The government is with you to put these people in place. I hope this will serve as a lesson to those who try to enter the Philippines to humiliate and make fun of our countrymen.”

What will happen to Vitaly?

This is very bad news for Vitaly who is awaiting trial in a prison far away from home. YouTuber, Atozy claims that the prankster could be facing up to 24 years behind bars for his actions. The Philippines is pretty harsh when it comes to sentencing, for example, you can be imprisoned for up to 30 days just for annoying somebody, it’s called the “unjust vexation law” and Vitaly evidently annoyed a lot of people. However 24 years seems like an incredibly exaggerated estimate.

Others have suggested he might be waiting in prison for his trial to begin for 2-3 years! If he really does end up with the worst case scenario then we might not see Vitaly return from his trip to the Philippines for 27 years!

Who is iDubbbz and what is the ‘Content Cop’? https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/news/who-is-idubbbz-and-what-is-the-content-cop/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/news/who-is-idubbbz-and-what-is-the-content-cop/#respond Fri, 18 Apr 2025 13:20:27 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1848201 Wondering what's going on?]]>

Trying to figure out some impenetrable but apparently very serious internet drama? Well, you’re in the right place. For a few days now, iDubbbz has been trending on X in relation to his video about YouTuber Ethan Klein.

This hour-long YouTube video is titled ‘Content Cop – H3’ ed by iDubbbz on Apr. 16 which already has 4.3 million views. So, what exactly is so dramatic here?

Who is iDubbbz and what is Content Cop?

Ian Kane Jomha, aka iDubbbz, is an American YouTuber, comedian, and content creator born October 1, 1990, in San Antonio, Texas. He rose to fame during the 2010s through his main channel, iDubbbzTV, which has over 7 million subscribers, alongside secondary channels iDubbbzTV2 and iDubbbzgames.

Much of his content consists of pointed and satirical critiques of internet culture. Content Cop, his most iconic series, called out YouTubers like RiceGum, Tana Mongeau, and Keemstar to huge success. Content Cop was praised for exposing hypocrisy and slammed for inciting hate campaigns against its targets. In 2023, iDubbbz unlisted the Content Cop videos and apologized for inciting toxicity, saying he was regretful over his past edgy humor.

Why is Content Cop back?

Enter Olive the Labrador Retriever, owned by YouTuber and former friend of iDubbbz Ethan Klein. In a podcast on Feb. 17, Klein insinuated that Olive had ed on the parasitic protozoa Giardia to Klein’s wife, son, and co-host. This didn’t happen, though it led to someone Klein suspects of being an online harasser calling S on Klein. Klein hit the roof and lashed out in all directions, specifically calling his former friend iDubbbz out for being “spineless” for not speaking up their defense.

iDubbbz and his wife Anisa initially expressed concern about Klein’s overall mental health, saying they didn’t want to get involved. The subsequent release of the hour-long video about Klein suggests they reconsidered that position.

So, the Content Cop video is essentially a response to Klein’s criticism. In the video, iDubbbz again suggests that Klein is suffering from an ongoing mental health episode, expresses sympathy for him and his family, and suggests he seek professional help. He also criticizes Klein for his repeated attacks on pro-Palestinian YouTubers like Hasan Piker (Klein’s former co-host), who Klein now sees as a terrorist er.

The fallout

As iDubbbz and Klein were close friends, many see this video as iDubbbz stabbing Klein in the back at a low moment. Yes, it’s arguable that the video has a sympathetic tone and ultimately wants Klein to resolve whatever mental health troubles he’s suffering, but perhaps the best way to do that is not in an hour-long public video.

As such, opinion is split. Though, to be frank, Klein’s increasingly erratic and manic behavior is concerning. The drama was already at a boiling point before this video and now it’s gone nuclear, so more is inevitably coming. Whatever else happens, I hope this has made even a little sense to outsiders.

MrBeast draws fierce criticism on social media for uh, rescuing enslaved children https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/mrbeast-draws-fierce-criticism-on-social-media-for-uh-rescuing-enslaved-children/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/mrbeast-draws-fierce-criticism-on-social-media-for-uh-rescuing-enslaved-children/#respond Fri, 11 Apr 2025 10:19:03 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1847151 "If this image doesn’t sicken you a little something is very very wrong with you"]]>

MrBeast‘s videos feel like they’ve been teleported in from the RoboCop dimension. Watching desperate people struggle through nightmarish and humiliating challenges in the name of content is dystopian as all heck, so I stay as far away from it as possible. But, all that said, MrBeast himself seems alright.

MrBeast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) launched ‘Beast Philanthropy’ in 2021, drawing on his gigantic financial reserves to do some genuine good in the world. Since then, the charity has provided millions of free meals to poor communities in the United States, constructed hundreds of wells in Africa, paid for cataract surgeries, given prosthetic limbs to Cambodian amputees, and rebuilt schools in Cameroon. The list goes on, but you get the point.

The charity’s current focus is fighting child slavery, and in a video on April 6, he revealed he’d partnered with Ghana Make a Difference to build a surgical center for children in the GMAD compound. In a video entitled “Rescuing Child Slaves in Africa” he unveiled his plan to combat the lack of medical care:

Most of you will be wondering how anyone could possibly criticize that? After all, in the world that feels like it’s teeming with evil and selfish rich people, here’s someone who is objectively using their wealth for good. Well, as it turns out, it’s not what MrBeast is doing, but the aesthetics of how he’s doing it:

The heart of the criticism is that MrBeast is being a “white savior”, and his real reason for building a children’s hospital isn’t kindness but because he knows it’ll be good PR and get views. But, even if that’s true, he’s still building a children’s hospital. As such, there’s been a lot of pushback against the hate, with many asking those critical of him what they’ve done for Africa lately?

And, in probably the best summary of all this:

In an ideal world, we wouldn’t have to rely on random acts of kindness from YouTubers to build children’s hospitals in Ghana. But, and I hope you’re sitting down for this bombshell, take a glance out the window and realize the world outside is extremely far from ideal. If MrBeast wants to spend his money on helping people rather than buying a solid gold Ferrari, I say let him.

What is Piper Rockelle’s net worth? https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/what-is-piper-rockelles-net-worth/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/what-is-piper-rockelles-net-worth/#respond Thu, 10 Apr 2025 10:53:35 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1846978 So, how much does a successful teen influencer make?]]>

Piper Rockelle is perhaps the epitome of a hit YouTuber. The 17-year-old influencer, singer, dancer, and actress hit the jackpot in the mid-2010s with a channel centering on pranks, challenges, and music videos, eventually achieving over 12 million subscribers.

Beyond her channel, she’s known for her roles in the Brat TV series Mani (2017-2018) as Sky and in Chicken Girls (2018), as well as her reality series Piperazzi. She’s also a TikTok star, has two hit songs “Treat Myself” and “Butterflies”, and all-around teen media sensation. So, what does all that add up to in of money?

Rockelle’s primary income was her YouTube channel. Based on typical YouTube earnings of $2 to $5 per 1,000 views for a channel of her size, at its peak she was earning between $500,000 and $1 million annually through ad revenue. But there was trouble brewing. In 2022 her channel was demonetized due to allegations against her mother, Tiffany Smith, who was sued by 11 of Rockelle’s former friends alleging serious manipulation and abuse.

This story was documented in Netflix’s three-part docies Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing, including shocking allegations of Tiffany Smith selling her daughter’s used underwear online, encouraging overly sexualized behavior online, feeding them hemp brownies, and openly describing herself as a YouTube madam. The legal drama ended with the family paying a $1.85 million total settlement, split between the 11 girls.

Though the lawsuit was settled out of court, the damage was done, YouTube demonitized the channel, and it no longer generated direct revenue. As such, Rockelle pivoted to alternative revenue sources, including merchandise sales (featuring her signature “Piper” branding) and a subscription-based platform on Brand Army.

Rockelle’s acting roles in Brat TV’s Mani and Chicken Girls, along with her reality series Piperazzi, have contributed modestly to her wealth, though these are secondary to her online earnings. She isn’t a musical megastar, but her singles also generate income. Other sponsorships and brand deals, a staple for TikTok influencers eager to boost their earnings, likely bring in six-figure sums annually, though exact figures are confidential.

As such, Rockelle’s current net worth is estimated to range between $3 million and $4 million, which reflects her success across various platforms and takes into her family’s legal troubles. Rockelle is still a teenager, but will soon be an adult and able to direct the course of her own career and make financial decisions for herself. Whether she can continue an upward trajectory remains to be seen, but she’s got a solid financial base to start from.

Kids YouTuber Ms. Rachel threatened with federal investigation for saying kids deserve food and water https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/celebrities/kids-youtuber-ms-rachel-threatened-with-federal-investigation-for-saying-kids-deserve-food-and-water/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/celebrities/kids-youtuber-ms-rachel-threatened-with-federal-investigation-for-saying-kids-deserve-food-and-water/#respond Wed, 09 Apr 2025 14:45:41 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1846790 Leave Ms. Rachel ALONE.]]>

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone less offensive than Ms. Rachel. On a YouTube riddled with upsetting, bizarre, and predatory videos she’s a beacon of light, providing a series of catchy educational tunes about colors, shapes and animals. To the parents of under fives she’s a godsend, using her degrees in Music Therapy and Master’s in Music Education to make the world a happier place.

Alternatively, if you listen to watchdog StopAntisemitism, Ms Rachel is single-handedly raising a generation of Hamas-loving terrorists hellbent on the destruction of the Western world, is trying to inspire full-blown hatred of Jewish people, and is a die-hard Islamist propagandist.

As such, StopAntisemitism has written a letter to Attorney-General Pam Bondi demanding that Ms. Rachel be investigated as a Hamas agent: “Ms. Rachel is being remunerated to disseminate Hamas-aligned propaganda to her millions of followers, as this may violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA)”.

The bee in their bonnet is a few videos posted to Ms. Rachel’s Instagram in which she uh, begs that Palestinian children have access to food and water. Clearly, she is history’s greatest monster.

It is undeniable that Israel’s continued attacks on Gaza City have resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent children. Though many bodies still lie beneath the rubble, it’s estimated that indiscriminate bombing of civilian neighborhoods, intentional withholding of aid, and destruction of medical facilities have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of children. The exact figure is impossible to know, though in Mar. 2024, the UN indicated that 12,300 children had been killed over just the preceding four months.

All of which feels like something a children’s advocate and educator probably should be paying attention to! Ms. Rachel has previously raised money on Cameo for emergency funds to help children in Sudan, Ukraine, Gaza and the Democratic Republic of Congo, going on to underline that:

“I care deeply for all children. Palestinian children, Israeli children, children in the US — Muslim, Jewish, Christian children — all children, in every country. Not one is excluded. think part of why people respond to the show is they feel that care – I see every child as I see my own. I love every neighbor. Any child suffering is on my heart. To do a fundraiser for children who are currently starving — who have no food or water — who are being killed — is human.”

Ordinarily the allegations against Ms. Rachel would be laughed out of the room. Unfortunately, we live under the shadow of the Trump istration, which appears to see full-throated for Israel as a prerequisite for being American – and any sympathy for Palestinians as a reason to persecute you.

Most people would probably pause and wonder if they’re really on the side of good when trying to take down a kid’s YouTuber for raising money to feed starving children. But, sadly, the overly theatrical evil is the point. After all, if they’ll take down Ms. Rachel as a Hamas-funded foreign agent, what will they do to you?

Why did Ray stop appearing on Kai Cenat’s streams? https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/celebrities/why-did-ray-stop-appearing-on-kai-cenats-streams/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/celebrities/why-did-ray-stop-appearing-on-kai-cenats-streams/#respond Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:04:30 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1835873 Ray is a fan favorite and those fans want to see more of him of Kai Cenat's streams.]]>

Fans of the Twitch star, Kai Cenat, will no doubt recognise one of the streamer’s best friends, Ray, AKA “rayasianboy” who frequently appeared on camera with Cenat, and quickly endeared himself to fans. However, the 19 year old has been noticeably absent from streams the last few months, and for an understandable reason.

Last year Cenat and Ray streamed together for what many thought could be the last time. Shortly afterwards he disappeared for a while, and some fans even believed that he had died.

What happened to Ray?

Ray had actually revealed earlier in the year that he would be returning to Taiwan in order to complete his military service. Both Cenat and Ray had been aware of this for a while, as the duo even discussed the prospect of Ray’s mandatory service with guests Druski and Kevin Hart in June. Cenat asks his friend to show how he would hold a gun, and Ray mimes holding a gun and throwing a grenade, prompting Hart to joke, “oh you’re going to die.”

Ray and Kai Cenat have been a fan favorite duo for a long time

The pair’s legendary friendship began when Cenat took a trip to Japan, where he met Ray by chance. Back then Ray was simply a fan of the streamer, but the two got on like a house on fire, prompting Cenat to fly his new friend back to the AMP house in Atlanta, where Ray would stay for a couple of weeks.

From there the two continued to make content together, with Ray fitting in perfectly with the kind of chaotic content Cenat was known for. Of course, they had their ups and downs, and it wouldn’t be uncommon for them to get into minor arguments on stream, but they were clearly very close friends. Fans loved the dynamic between the two, with commenters on YouTube comparing them to bickering siblings. Ray even began streaming himself under the name “rayasianboy.”

What’s going on with Ray’s military service?

Ray revealed to Cenat in May that he would have to return to his country in order to complete a year-long mandatory conscription that all Taiwanese citizens have to fulfill. On August 25th, Cenat recorded a Snapchat of him saying goodbye to his friend prior to his departure from the U.S.

Fans wished the young streamer luck, while others simply said that they would miss seeing Ray in the streams.

A mere five days later, Cenat updated fans and claimed that Ray in fact did not return to fulfil his military service, but rather he was simply going to see his family for a few weeks. Since then it seems like Ray has been back and forth between the U.S. and Taiwan. He and Cenat have reunited more than once, with Ray returning for a stream in November last year and again in December.

The law in Taiwan states that men between the age of 18-36 with a Taiwanese citizenship are expected to complete a compulsory military service. Perhaps Ray was able to arrange doing it when he’s older, or maybe he’s managed to find a loophole to avoid it entirely.

‘The Neil Gaiman of BookTubers’: Fantasy book community shocked by Naomi King’s assault allegations against YouTube star Daniel Greene (Updated) https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/books/the-neil-gaiman-of-booktubers-fantasy-book-community-shocked-by-naomi-kings-assault-allegations-against-youtube-star-daniel-greene/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/books/the-neil-gaiman-of-booktubers-fantasy-book-community-shocked-by-naomi-kings-assault-allegations-against-youtube-star-daniel-greene/#respond Tue, 18 Feb 2025 23:57:12 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1834219 The bookish crowd can't catch a break.]]>

Editor’s note: Naomi King has deleted the two videos in which she accused Daniel Greene of sexual assault, and has since posted an apology video. Greene’s response to her claims can be found here. The original version of this article was published on Feb. 15, 2025, and can be read below:

Daniel Greene, one of the most popular book vloggers on YouTube, has recently been accused of sexual assault by a former friend and fellow content creator, Naomi King.

Greene started his online career in 2016, where he initially posted videos talking about his favorite fantasy book series like The Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire. He then transitioned into a full-fledged content creator, introducing and recommending books, reviewing them, and even launching a weekly fantasy news segment. Over the years, Greene slowly grew to become one of the most popular BookTubers on the platform with more than 500K s subscribed to his main channel at the time of writing. He has also collaborated with other content creators and at times inspired them to launch their own channels.

Now, the YouTube content creator-turned-novelist is facing allegations of sexual abuse from long-time former friend Naomi King, only weeks after the literary world was shaken to its very roots following the damning allegations leveled at Neil Gaiman and his wife.

On Feb. 10, Naomi King posted a now-deleted video on her YouTube channel detailing the cease and desist letter she received from Daniel’s attorney a while back, over a video she posted on her channel titled “A Conversation About Manipulation, Consent, and Assault.” In it, Naomi discusses her horrifying encounter with an individual who sexually assaulted her. She doesn’t explicitly name anyone in this video, but the implication may have been enough to spur Greene into taking some precautionary measures, like sending the cease and desist letter.

You can also check out the original video from a year ago here.

Since the release of this exposé, many BookTubers have commented on the controversy and expressed their for King. As for Greene, he published a video calling the allegations “false.” He also claimed that he has “clear and convincing” evidence that everything between him and King was consensual, though from the short nature of the video and the clipped tone in which he conveys the message, it’s obvious that this was just a PR-crafted statement until he can present the purported evidence. He has since posted a follow-up video.

Since the release of these videos, Greene has lost almost 30K of his subscribers, with someone going as far as commenting on the video above: “Bro is the Neil Gaiman of BookTubers.”

Naomi King, for her part, released another now-deleted video giving further details of the pair’s Las Vegas encounter. It’s not clear if any of these revelations will be damning to either of their cases, since Greene seems adamant about taking this to court.

Now, as the community digests all of this information, it’s important to note that none of this is confirmed as fact. King paints a very damning picture of Greene in her video, but it would be prudent to wait for more evidence to emerge. Since he is such a prominent and beloved cornerstone of the fantasy and BookTube worlds, I have no doubt that we haven’t seen the end of this by a long shot.

The sudden emergence of sexual assault claims leveled against Daniel Greene, a prominent BookTuber in the fantasy sphere, has sent shockwaves across social media over the last week. This new controversy, happening almost in conjunction with the recent damning allegations against Neil Gaiman, is making everybody wonder if the MeToo movement is now coming for literary figures, but the Daniel Greene/Naomi King drama may have been resolved sooner than anyone could’ve anticipated.

It would be a gross understatement to suggest that Daniel Green is a cornerstone of the fantasy community on YouTube. Starting his career as a very young reader, Greene may have spent most of those early days in obscurity reviewing his favorite books, recommending series he’d read, and very, very slowly expanding his little community, but now he is everybody’s go-to fantasy book reviewer, having roped in a whopping 500k subscribers to his main channel. The man has even published three of his own books over the last few years, so he’s also an established author in his own right.

All of this is to say, it is entirely understandable why the community, and even social media at large, absolutely exploded last week when a former friend and colleague of Daniel’s, Naomi King, came forward and accused the BookTuber of having non-consensual sexual encounters with them during a trip the pair took to Las Vegas.

Per King’s first video, which they published on Feb. 10th, Greene engaged in sexual acts with them while they were half-asleep and under the influence of drugs. At first, King had opted to discuss this experience in ambiguous , releasing a video on YouTube that brushed on the encounter without naming anyone in specific. Greene, who of course knew it was about him, asked his lawyer to send a cease and desist letter, which then compelled King to make their Feb. 10 video, explicitly accusing the BookTuber of having non-consensual sex with them.

Greene, in turn, released a video denying all of the allegations and threatening King with a lawsuit. He then published a second video, wherein he explains why King’s narrative doesn’t make sense, and that they have purposefully edited the evidence (consisting of an apology letter and a few chat screenshots) to make this case against him.

Now, for whatever reason, whether it was the realization that their narrative was already unraveling or the legal woes of taking this to court, King deleted their two videos and published a third one, apologizing to both Daniel and his fiancé Kayla, and all the people whom she may have misled.

And that’s the crux of it. ‌‌But of course, where the internet is involved, things are always bound to get more complicated than they should. Like the fact that because of his dominant status, many fellow BookTubers released videos of their own condemning Greene for his behavior, and then immediately backtracked on it when the full picture emerged. Daniel’s Discord mods went on a campaign disowning the content creator in every sense, and folks on social media, taking Greene’s preemptive legal action as an ission of guilt, piled on with accusations and speculation.

What essentially took a matter of days to be resolved (well, at least partially) spiraled into a web of unjustified outrage and emotional manipulation. Of shifting stances and unnecessary apologies.

I wonder what this says as a community, where such rhetoric as “innocent until proven guilty” are, in practice, just ideals we toss around, never to be actually employed when it comes to our own personal, often parasocial relationships with celebrities, influencers, content creators, and the like.

That’s not to say people were gullible to believe King, or vice versa. One usually deals with evidence as it’s presented to them, and if one narrative is convincing enough, you can’t help but lean towards it until a clearer picture emerges. We now have this clearer picture, but even then, we couldn’t possibly say for sure how it all went down in reality.

The distinction is in recognizing that no narrative, no matter how compelling, should be taken at face value in this digital age. Just as the tide has now shifted in favor of Greene, King could swoop in with her own evidence and take us back to square one. I wonder how the other content creators would react then. Would they delete their apology video to Greene and another one in of King? And round and round we’d go, over an issue that feels less about the truth and more about who controls the current narrative.

It’s also important to note that while the severity of issues like sexual assault is treated with due respect by most audiences, the lives that could directly or indirectly be affected by these controversies is something often overlooked. If King’s allegations are false or misrepresented, then that ends up casting a long shadow over the uphill battle other survivors of SA have to fight in society. It won’t matter then if this was King’s intention or not, because the damage is done.

The same could also extend to Greene’s fiancé, Kayla, who now has to relive the trauma of being cheated on (at least that part is something both parties acknowledge) and deal with the public scrutiny of an issue that should’ve remained private.

We can only hope that people will now give the couple and everybody else involved enough space to work through this and find their way toward healing.

‘A lapse in judgment’: What happened to ‘India’s Got Latent’? The Ranveer Allahbaida controversy, explained https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/a-lapse-in-judgment-what-happened-to-indias-got-latent-the-ranveer-allahbaida-controversy-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/a-lapse-in-judgment-what-happened-to-indias-got-latent-the-ranveer-allahbaida-controversy-explained/#respond Thu, 13 Feb 2025 09:56:46 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1833481 Ranveer Allahbadia's question on 'India's Got Latent' caused huge outcry and goverement intervention.]]>

A controversial episode of the comedy show India’s Got Latent has been removed from YouTube by government order following what the ministry called “obscene” jokes made by content creator Ranveer Allahbaida (also known as “Beer Biceps”).

Kanchan Gupta, the senior advisor at India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed as much in an X post, writing “The India Has Latent episode on @YouTube with obscene and perverse comments by Ranveer Allahbadia has been blocked following Government of India orders.” A black screen will show with the error message “video unavailable” if you try to watch it now.

A sexual joke caused the deletion

Allahbadia was featured on bonus episode 6 of India’s Got Latent, and a clip of a “would you rather” question he asked went viral soon after. He asked a contestant a distasteful but common question in this style of game, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day or them once to finish it once and for all?”

According to Times of India, the remark caused nationwide debate, with people outraged by what he said. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also stepped in, urging YouTube to remove the video. ANI also reported that Priyank Kanoongo of the NHRC wrote to the platform’s head of public policy, Mira Chatt, asking that YouTube take “urgent action.” A report regarding the clip was also allegedly filed with the relevant police authorities.

Since then, all videos of the show have been banished from the channel. The Indian government has a low tolerance for what is considered vulgar, evidenced by the swift action taken. The incident has sparked debate about whether comedy culture has gone awry, or whether the government is going too far in its efforts to minimize content that may be perceived as obscene.

In a 2020 article, titled Obscenity or Absurdity: The Unclear Laws in India, published in the Haryana Police Journal, Aashia Jindal and Sanket Gupta write, “The Constitution of India has, on one hand, provided the freedom of speech and expression to its citizens while at the same time, IPC and other statues discussed within the article have curtailed this freedom by penalizing those expressions which come within the ambits of the term ‘Obscene.’”

What happened next?

It’s unclear if the video was removed by YouTube or the ’s , but the takedown is more symbolic than meaningful at this point, as the clip has already been shared on the internet beyond the point of attempted censorship. Likely under pressure to do so, Allahbadi apologized in a video on X.

He itted that comedy is his not forte, saying, “My comment wasn’t appropriate. It wasn’t even funny.” He added, “Many of you asked if this is how I wished to use my platform and obviously this is not how I wish to use it. I am not going to give any context, justification, or reason.”

“I personally had a lapse in judgment. It wasn’t cool on my part. The podcast was watched by people
of all ages. Don’t want to be the kind of person that takes responsibility lightly and family is the last
thing I would ever disrespect.”

He also said, “Need to use this platform better. That’s been my learning from this whole
experience. I promise to just get better. Have asked the makers of the video to remove the insensitive sections from the video.”

Who is Ranveer Allahbadia?

Allahbadia is a popular podcaster (he claims to have India’s number one top-ranked podcast) and YouTuber who covers several topics including wellness, self-development, and lifestyle. He commonly appears on similar shows, too.

“India has close to a billion internet s. Pretty sure my pretty face has reached most of them. 9+ years in content. 850+ podcasts. 31+ years of [tomfoolery],” reads his X bio. He’s not known for comedy content, saying himself it’s not his “forte.” Something tells us he’ll be staying clear of it in the future, too.

It seems like every other week there’s another headline about yet another company, social media site, or platform that Elon Musk has allegedly bought. As the wealthiest individual in the world, making all these purchases isn’t outside his means. And while Musk has eyed a few companies over the years, is YouTube also in the tech mogul’s peripheral vision">his recent inauguration salute “slip up,” he’s the last person that a platform like YouTube should want to be d with.

YouTuber comes under fire for using an offensive slur, Dream’s crashout, explained https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/youtuber-comes-under-fire-for-using-an-offensive-slur-dreams-crashout-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/youtube/youtuber-comes-under-fire-for-using-an-offensive-slur-dreams-crashout-explained/#respond Tue, 14 Jan 2025 15:59:21 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1824346 Another year another Dream crashout.]]>

Dream used to be one of the most popular and beloved Minecraft YouTubers in the gaming community – the key phrase there is “used to be,” nowadays his reputation is at an all time low. After involving himself in a number of controversies and dramas over the years it’s safe to say that fans don’t quite view the YouTuber in the same light anymore and the latest Dream crashout has only put another nail in his coffin.

The Dream situation kicked off earlier this month after one of his former collaborators, TommyInnit called out streamer XQc (who has his own fair share of controversies), accusing him of being cringe. In a response, XQc mentioned Dream which prompted the Minecraft YouTuber to respond to Tommy.

Dream and Tommy are former friends and collaborators, but the pair had a falling out a while ago although the exact details are still up for debate as to why they fell out but regardless, there’s a bit of bad blood between Dream. His now-deleted response featured a meme which used the R slur to make fun of Tommy.

What is the R slur?

The meme posted by dream is a common template used online, usually the text is changed to fit the situation, it features a character stood at a crossroads, usually with one of the paths being seen as the more desirable, or normal path, while the other one is considered to be more outlandish and sometimes offensive. In this case the meme featured “DreamSMP stans” stood at the crossroads, with one path labeled “growing up,” while the other read, “Becoming a r*****ed TommyInnit fan.” The R slur in this case is the derogatory term “retard”, often cruelly directed at individuals with learning disabilities.

Obviously Dream’s Tommyinnit post saw the YouTuber receive backlash with other YouTube personalities and even former fans who called him out. Dream took down the meme and addressed his offensive tweet in a follow-up tweet. Meanwhile, Tommy responded with another post claiming all he had to do “was get Trump involved and he finally cracked.”

Tubbo, another creator from the DreamSMP, got involved giving his own “unbiased” side of the story. In his stream he mentions the former grooming allegations made against Dream as well as mentioning Dream’s autism diagnosis.

What did Dream do to Tommy?

On January 11th we got a three-hour Dream livestream in which he addressed the drama in more depth. He responded to Tommy’s Trump tweet, asking him how he could say something like that about “someone you even at one point ever looked at as a friend.” He also addressed the fact that he sent a DM to Tommy’s mom, claiming he sent a singular message explaining to his mother why Dream and his fans were upset with Tommy.

Tommy’s mom had addressed the drama on X at the time, calling Dream an “ableist p***k” for using the R slur.

On January 14th, Dream released his much anticipated response video titled, “I’m Sorry (but not to TommyInnit)” in the video he apologized again for his use of the R word before going on to accuse Tommy of spreading rumors and lies about him for a year and a half. He called out Tommy and his friends for continuing to make pedophile jokes about Dream even after he responded to the accusations providing his own evidence to debunk the rumors a long time ago.

The general consensus from the Dream crashout is that both Dream and TommyInnit are pretty terrible people. Neither of them have come out of this drama looking good and to be honest, most of this could have been resolved between the pair behind closed doors.
