Everybody’s favorite murderous gameshow is back for a second round, as Squid Game season 2. The trailer was released on June 17 and it features new and returning cast , including season 1’s main protagonist Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae.

Squid Game’s first season followed Gi-Hun and nearly 500 other cash-strapped contestants who competed in several sadistic games with the sole goal of earning the competition’s jackpot.
Season 2’s trailer opens up with several cuts from season 1, including the first deadly game, red light green light, as well as the famous staircase that leads players to and from games. Some text then pops up, reading: “The characters you’ve been waiting for will be back for more.” Then, four familiar faces are shown, signifying their involvement in season 2. Lee Byung-hun will reprise his role as the Front Man, the trial’s masked antagonist. Hwang Jun-ho, the police officer who snuck his way into the harrowing facility and went undercover as a games worker, is back and once again played by Wi Ha-jun.
Gong Yoo is in season 2 as well, and he’ll play the mysterious, unnamed man who first approached the contestants about the opportunity.
The four recurring cast are the only ones from season 1 announced. And that’s because virtually all of the other characters died, which makes way for several new names to take the screen.
Four new actors were shown in the ‘Squid Game’ season 2 trailer
“And introducing the new players,” some text reads before four men take turns walking up to a podium and pushing a green button.
Although their character names weren’t shared by Netflix, the actors were revealed. Yim Si-wan, known as Siwan, is a South Korean actor and boy band “ZE:A” member and is first shown. Then, Kang Ha-neul (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo) takes his turn at the podium before Park Sung-hoon (My Only One) and Yang Dong-geun (Ruler of Your Own World) announce their presence.
Unfortunately, that’s all we got from the trailer. Besides not showing any new content from season 2, Netflix also didn’t reveal a release date. It was released 21 months after all nine episodes from season 1 dropped in September 2021 on the streaming platform. It’s no surprise Netflix is coming out with a second season. Squid Game’s first iteration was wildly successful for the company, and it earned seven Primetime Emmy Awards, which includes Jung-jae taking home the “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” trophy in 2022.
