‘Gotham Knights’ creator speaks out on the one-season wonder’s cancellation

Many are sad to see it go.

The CW’s Gotham Knights may not have had the best run, but there’s no denying that the cast and crew behind it were certainly ionate about the project until the very end.

In a lengthy post to Twitter, the show’s co-creator, Natalie Abrams, shared some final words regarding the show and what it meant to her and the current generation. Abrams praises the crew and all those working behind the scenes as well as those in front of the camera for making the show what it was.

“It belonged to every single member of this incomparable family comprised of our writers, our actors and our crew. I want to thank this family from the bottom of my heart for EVERYTHING we’ve created together over the last two years.”

The show was already facing an uphill battle before the cameras were even rolling as Abrams details the challenges of pitching, to shooting a pilot to airing the episodes. There are a lot of locked doors that must be opened before a show like this can even get out there.

“[M]agic like this doesn’t happen often. Lightning in a bottle, as they say. To get a pitch picked up to script, and THEN picked up from a pilot, AND then picked up to a series… wait, AND THEN actually air episodes? Next to impossible in this new era.”

Fans of the show ed its creator in mourning the loss but also praising Abrams for what she created.

“Thanks for your beautiful words, Nat

When a series ends, as good as GK, it truly feels like your losing old friends in the characters & it’s so hard to say goodbye to them. Thankfully GK has brought the talent and kindness of the amazing people who worked on it (with your amazing self) and I look forward to ing their future projects for years to come”

“Everyone involved in this show clearly poured all of their hearts into it, creating a wonderful product that deserved far better from the network. You should all be so proud of your good work. It’s been wonderful to go on this journey with you.”

“This show means the absolute world to me for so many reasons and your brilliant, caring, and ionate heart is behind every single one of them. Thank you for making it. It made a difference and will continue to, for years to come. #CWGothamKnights

There’s no doubt that the show’s creators had a battle every step of the way. Sadly, that battle ended with the decision from who was particularly bummed was Supernatural alumni, Misha Collins, who played DA Harvey Dent.

Abrams seems appreciative of the opportunity and we’re appreciative of the one series we got even if more would have been nice. It was a good run, but it looks like Gotham Knights is destined to the list of one-season wonders. And on the bright side, at least we still have Superman & Lois.
