A deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers has forced the fast-food giant to pull its signature burger from roughly 2,800 locations across the United States, marking one of the most significant food safety incidents in the chain’s recent history.

The outbreak has already claimed one life in Colorado and left 49 people sick across 10 states, with 10 victims requiring hospitalization. Federal investigators are zeroing in on fresh slivered onions as the likely culprit behind the contamination, though the investigation remains ongoing.

“We fully expect to see more cases,” CDC spokesman Tom Skinner warned on Wednesday, as McDonald’s rushed to contain both the outbreak and the mounting public relations nightmare.

Just days before the outbreak made headlines, former President Donald Trump made a campaign stop at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s, where he donned the chain’s signature apron and served customers through the drive-thru window. The coincidence has sparked a flurry of conspiracy theories on social media, with some s attempting to draw connections between Trump’s visit and the subsequent health crisis.

What do we know about the McDonald’s E.coli outbreak?

McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger appeared on the Today show Wednesday morning, attempting to reassure the public while acknowledging the severity of the situation. “Given the recent events of the past 24 hours, our priority is to reinforce the confidence of American consumers”, he stated.

The company’s stock took an immediate hit, plummeting 5% to $298.57 as investors grappled with the potential long-term implications. History suggests they have reason to worry. Similar outbreaks at chains like Chipotle and Jack in the Box led to prolonged sales slumps lasting multiple quarters.

For some customers, the company’s response hasn’t been enough. Adriean Madden, who regularly visits a McDonald’s location near Denver, expressed frustration at the lack of visible warnings. “I didn’t see any notices on the door, and then I saw vehicles going through the drive-through just as if nothing was going on”, he said.

Food safety experts have also questioned McDonald’s decision to remove only the Quarter Pounder while keeping affected restaurants open. Bill Marler, a prominent food safety attorney, argued that “good practice would have been to close all the restaurants” until the contamination source is definitively identified.

The outbreak has affected locations across Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, and portions of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. The CDC reports that infections occurred between Sept. 27 and Oct. 11, with interview data revealing that all affected individuals had eaten at McDonald’s, and most had ordered a Quarter Pounder.

The specific strain of E. coli involved – O157:H7 – is particularly concerning, as it’s the same variant responsible for the devastating 1993 Jack in the Box outbreak that claimed four young lives. “This is a relatively large and serious outbreak for which McDonald’s will face ‘a lot’ of liability”, Marler warned.

McDonald’s maintains that its beef supply is likely not the source of contamination, citing thorough cooking procedures that should kill E. coli bacteria. The company is currently searching for a new regional supplier for fresh onions while working closely with federal investigators to prevent further infections.

The fallout from all of this remains uncertain, but analysts suggest McDonald’s fourth-quarter sales could face significant pressure. As the investigation continues and more cases potentially emerge, the company faces the challenging task of rebuilding consumer trust while managing a crisis that threatens to tarnish its reputation for stringent food safety standards.

By now you’ve probably seen (or heard about) former President Donald Trump‘s field trip to a Pennsylvania McDonald’s recently for a combination photo op/Kamala Harris troll. The presidential candidate worked the fryer, handed out meals through the drive thru, and generally did the best he could to look like a relatable human. We’ve got something, though, that you just have to see: an AI recreation of said visit. It’s pretty incredible.

First, some background. One of the things that Vice President Kamala Harris has repeatedly brought up is that she had a summer job in college at McDonald’s. Trump has claimed there’s no evidence this is true, and McDonald’s corporate has systematically refused a legion of media requests to clear up the issue.

Trump very publicly loves McDonalds. He also loves trolling. Two of his favorite things were brought together when he decided he was going to “work” at the fast food restaurant and declared candidly: “I love salt.” He also called making fries a “beautiful” process.

Well, it’s only fair that the commander in troll gets trolled a little himself. That comes courtesy of the fun-loving hooligans over at the political commentary TV program Alien Super Show.

Honestly, it’s one of the most unhinged depictions of AI that’s ever existed in the history of mankind. It’s frantic, wild and unsettling in the way only AI can be. There are words we could use to describe it, but this is definitely one of those cases where that would not even come close to doing it justice.

In the world of AI, physics does not matter. What’s front is back, what’s solid is liquid, what’s impossible is possible to a degree that the human mind probably can’t even comprehend. Maybe there’s a parallel AI universe out there where things really are this wild and wacky, but in the meantime we have this delicious video to get us through.

Unsurprisingly, Trump’s visit to McDonald’s, whether it’s AI’ed into eternity or not, caused some consternation among the local people of Bucks County, Pa. Trump is a master at getting attention, and this particular stunt ranks up there with his best attempts. About a hundred ers and around 50 protesters showed up to either praise or mock him.

There was a lot of vitriol involved, with plenty of flag waving and yelling about Jan. 6, Project 2025, and vaccines. Dress for the event ranged from T-shirts screaming “I’m voting for the convicted felon,” to “Lock him up.”

Sometimes, the truth can seem even more weird than AI. For example, a 57-year-old man named Michael Mazzoni, who ed Harris, held up a sign that said, “WEIRD. Stop bullies and criminals. Vote for Freedom.” He smoked a cigar while Trump ers gave him the finger.

He said he just wanted to make sure “our” message gets heard even because the “Trump message is always louder, crazier.” Not as crazy as Trump screaming as he sets digital fries on fire or takes off his shirt in the McDonald’s drive through before slamming into the hood of a car. But just barely.  

If there’s something better than satisfying a craving for McDonald’s, it’s going through the drive-thru. Ordering a double cheeseburger or breakfast at any time of day is more enjoyable when you don’t even have to leave your vehicle. But next time you pull up to the Golden Arches to pick up a pre-work McGriddle or a Genshin Impact collab meal, something unexpected might happen.

Since the fast food chain has been around since 1940 and customers have used the drive-thru since 1975, McDonald’s has become a staple of many people’s lives. You know the whole menu (but maybe not as well as Trump does), and have likely eaten there more times than you can even . But have you heard why some customers are being ignored?

There are many reasons why customers should be ignored. If they’re mean, disrespectful, or aggressive, they should be refused service. But that’s not why drive-thru customers have tried to place an order for McNuggets and had to wait. So what’s going on?

According to The Irish Mirror, TikTok @maccaworkaddict shared that when some customers say “hello” impatiently the second they pull up to a McDonald’s drive-thru, some employees won’t help them immediately and will make them wait. She wrote on her video, “You can’t keep ignoring the car in the drive-thru because they screamed hello as soon as they get there.” One told her, “Each time they say hello I make them wait another 10 seconds lol.” In any case, it would appear that the issue isn’t greeting the drive-thru workers, it’s implicitly demanding immediate service.

As The Irish Mirror pointed out, some people thought that retaliating by ignoring the offending drive-thru patrons was the wrong thing for an employee to do, and others felt that anyone working at McDonald’s could at least say it’s going to be a minute, so the customer knows that they can order soon. It’s easy to imagine that it’s stressful working at a fast food drive-thru and of course everyone deserves to be shown respect and comion. But customers who say hi are, more than likely, just trying to be polite.

How often does this happen? I’d argue it’s probably not happening all the time or at every single location, since that seems pretty impossible. But, given the low wages and unfair nature of working in the retail or service industry, it’s easy to understand why people are fed up. According to EPI’s Wage Tracker, some people earn an hourly wage of less than $10 at McDonald’s (23% to be exact), which is awful.

It’s no secret that people can behave poorly in fast food or other restaurants. After the TikTok was posted (it appears, after searching TikTok for the name, that it may have now been deleted), The New York Post spoke to other McDonald’s employees about bad behavior. If you order at the drive-thru, you need to share what you want right away instead of causing a big slow-down. A man named Gregory who works at the chain said, “People are less caring nowadays than they used to be. They are less patient.”

The New York Post also suggests that McDonald’s customers should stop claiming there was a hair in the food they just ate so they can get another free meal, which is just terrible behavior. High schoolers apparently “throw pickles at the wall” according to someone who used to work at the fast food chain if they don’t want to eat them. That’s definitely not cool… but it does sound like something a teenager would do.

Despite the debate about whether you should say hello or not, going through the McDonald’s drive-thru is still convenient and great. It’s also not going to take you very long. The Hill reported on a 2023 study of the time it took people to go through the drive-thrus of various fast food chains. While McDonald’s was the second longest at 413.06 seconds, that’s still not a long wait for some hot, crispy French fries.

Donald Trump has never been shy about his love for McDonald’s. After the first debate between Trump and Kamala Harris, Jimmy Kimmel spotlighted how much the former president and (unfortunate) Republican nominee adores the fast food chain… while also pointing out the gaps in the convicted felon’s knowledge.

Kimmel introduced the segment by saying, “There seem to be so many things Trump claims he knows nothing about,” including Project 2025, Q-anon, Michael Avenatti’s indictment, RFK, the women who Trump allegedly assaulted, white supremacists, the Proud Boys, David Duke, Hitler, and Lil Jon (even though he was on The Apprentice). But there are also many things Trump apparently knows more about than anyone else on the planet. That list includes ISIS, weapons, steel workers, drones, politicians (no specific ones), technology (same), ethanol, wind, consultants, trade, the system, the banking industry, environmental impact statements, and, the most important one of all, McDonald’s!

In 2023, Trump went to a McDonald’s in East Palestine, Ohio and mansplained to an employee, “So, I know this menu better than you do. I probably know it better than anybody in here.” Yup, only Trump would think he knows more about someone else’s job than they do. But of course he does, because he knows more about every single subject in the world than all of us!

While we could add the 2020 election to the list of things Trump assumes he’s well-versed in, his claim about McDonald’s stands out because his adoration of the fast food chain is as famous as his hatred of “fake news.” It turns out he’s been eating a lot of McDonald’s on the campaign trail. According to Newsweek, the Trump campaign team enjoyed meals at Dunkin Donuts, Wendy’s, Chick Fil-A, and Jimmy John’s, but paid $4,700 for McDonald’s.

There’s just one big question: did Trump order a Fish Delight?! While Trump told Anderson Cooper that he loved this menu item back in 2017, it’s not actually a sandwich you can order. As Food and Wine Magazine noted, some thought he meant to say Filet-o-Fish. So, one of two things happened: Trump imagined himself eating something from the fast food chain that he didn’t, or he really does like the worst item on the menu. When there is all-day breakfast and the McCrispy, who orders a Filet-o-Fish? Sorry, Don ⏤ I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t mention fries as their all-time favorite indulgence. Apparently Trump does like Big Macs, but his typical order sounds intense. According to an article in The Guardian from 2017, he used to get one chocolate mileshake, two Big Macs, and two Filet-o-Fishes. Ew.

I know the McDonald’s menu, too, because most people have ordered from it once or twice, whether on their way home from a late night out or as a reward for a bad day (or no reason at all, because you’re a grown-up and can eat what you want). But I’m not running for president… so it goes without saying that Trump needs to learn a lot more about, well, everything before Nov. 5, 2024, because not doing would honestly just be fishy.

Each Happy Meal comes with Crocs Clips stickers and a Crocs box. 10 toys in the McDonald’s Crocs Happy Meal now on sale in Thailand include a Ball Pit design, a red McDonald’s character, a blue McDonald’s character, a Happy Meal box pattern toy, and a red and white Scribbles Happy Meal smile toy. There are also some food-themed toys: a Fries Croc toy, a McNuggets Crocs toy, a Burger Crocs toy, a white Golden arches Crocs toy, and a Golden arches and a red Happy Meal smile Cocs toy.

While all the toys look appealing, I love the McNuggets and Burger Croc toys the most… and I fully anyone stealing these from their kids’ Happy Meals.

Since McDonald’s worked with Crocs in the past, it makes sense that they would feature Crocs toys in their popular Happy Meals. In November 2023, you could buy McDonald’s Crocs in four colors that represent the fast food chain’s mascots: yellow (French fry), black and white stripes (the Hamburglar), yellow (Birdie the Early Bird’s eyes), and purple (Grimace).

Since Happy Meals are such a massive part of many people’s childhoods, it’s fun that McDonald’s is bringing in some adorable Crocs toys. Besides working with other brands, the company has also switched their Happy Meals up in recent years, and they look a bit different than they did when you were a kid. According to Forbes, McDonald’s decided in 2018 to share the nutritional value of each Happy Meal with customers and to make Happy Meals no more than 600 calories. As if Donald Trump’s attempts to smear Kamala Harris weren’t already pathetic enough, the actual felon has decided to one-up himself. His latest attack centers around a baseless claim that the Democratic nominee is lying (something Trump never does) about her employment record. No, he isn’t attacking her legacy as a prosecutor, rather, the time she spent flipping burgers at a McDonald’s to help pay for her college education.

The ridiculous rhetoric is enough to make you want to rip your own ears off, especially as his legions of mindless followers take to X.com to shout about the injustices of a lying liar like Harris besmirching the hallowed legacy of Ronald McDonald. Even Star Wars icon Mark Hamill has ed the fray, sharing his own McDonald’s-related history in a bid to get hot-headed reactions to reconsider their MAGA rage.

Mark Hamill (and McDonald’s) verified that he did work for the franchise when he was 16. The actor first shared his story on Twitter back in 2019 saying “My 1st real job WAS at McDonald’s in Annandale Virginia when I was 16,” alongside the caption “Star Wars: The Fries of Skywalker.” His first ittance garnered the actor tons of love on the site, but his 2024 redux has netted some serious MAGA hate.

Hamill has been an avid Harris er since she announced her campaign bid. Ever since he threw his considerable weight behind her, his replies have been bogged down by a slew of MAGA wackadoos who claim they don’t care about the actor while insisting on replying to his every post. His latest message of was littered with the classic, “Who cares,” replies along with a smattering of photoshopped sexist images of Harris to gross and frankly too lazy to bother sharing. But the most common Harris criticism seems to be centered on the idea that Harris lied at all.

The whole story stems from a brief mention of the franchise Harris threw out as she ed a Las Vegas picket line with fast food workers in 2019. At the time she told workers, “I did the French fries and I did the ice cream,” before lambasting McDonalds for its low pay and for failing workers who used the job to “pay the rent, put food on the table and keep the bills paid by the end of the month.”

She mentioned the job again on the Drew Barrymore Show, but as the MAGA crowd has been so fast to mention, the fast food stint doesn’t appear on Harris’ resume and therefore must be a steaming pile of lies. It’s downright laughable that the MAGA crowd would choose lying as a hill to die on.

Trump’s penchant for lying has been incredibly well documented since 2016, with the former president spewing out half-truths as easily as he sucks down Diet Cokes. During the June debate with former Presidential candidate Joe Biden Trump outright lied a dozen times, yet his ers were silent as the grave.

But, if Daddy-Trump says scream, his ers are ready and willing to rip those vocal cords raw. The former president railed against Harris over the weekend saying,

“She also said, ‘I worked at McDonald’s. Turned out she didn’t work at McDonald’s.” Before adding a confusing, “After an exhaustive study that took about 20 minutes, they found out she never worked there.” Truly, Jedi librarian Jocasta Nu was right “If an item doesn’t not appear in our records, it does not exist,” never has that sort of sheer arrogance come back to bite a person, right? Right?

Anyone with a background in the service industry (like yours truly) knows fast food loves a franchise, and those mom and pop owned installations don’t necessarily function as a part of the whole. Individual hiring and employee records may have been kept by franchisees onsite, rather than maintained in some every-McDonalds-employee-ever historical database. Franchises aren’t always in lockstep with corporate, in general — just take that story about the German Burger King that was stripped of its tie to the mothership, now going by the hilariously concise name, “Burger.”

The real wonder is why any of that matters to the cult of the Orange Julius Caesar. The former president and ongoing pathological liar would never stoop so low as to work a blue-collar job that required treating people with respect and dignity. He doesn’t have the mental fortitude to grin through a drive-through Karen meltdown and still manage to grind out a “have a good day,” through homicidal thoughts.

The stunt is just the latest in a growing list of failed smear attempts from Trump, though there does seem to be a weirdly personal tilt to this attack. Trump has long been an avid er of fast food, providing hundreds of cold McDonalds burgers to athlete, school kids, and many other visitors to his White House like some sort of poor man’s feast. Perhaps his frustrations stem from Harris’ shared experience with millions of Americans, one that not even all the money in the world can buy.

Harris and Hamill came from working class backgrounds, toiled until they could stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s wealthy elite, and accomplished it all with their own vigor. Trump, on the other hand, is just a rich boy who paved his road with the wealth of his daddy.

There was nothing better than being a kid and getting a McDonald’s Happy Meal, and every time a grown-up orders chicken nuggets and fries (and dips them in honey), they embrace their inner child a little bit more. While all-day breakfast is a close second, the real winner was, is, and always will be the Happy Meal. There’s just something special about it, which is why people are wondering if the adult Happy Meal is back.

While of course it’s possible to get a cheeseburger or an order of large fries (the only acceptable size) any time, a regular order is missing that elusive and magical element: the toy. (It’s a shame to grow up and learn that regular restaurant or fast food meals don’t come with toys…) So, let’s find out: is there a McDonald’s Happy Meal for adults?

While there used to be an adult Happy Meal at McDonald’s, there isn’t one currently. But don’t despair because as of August 13th, 2024, everyone can order a delicious Collector’s Meal and get six amazing glass cups.

The six cups include pictures of some of the best McDonald’s toys from the past. The classic McDonald’s cup includes the iconic Grimace Glass, Boo Buckets, and Funny Fry Friends. Other cups include Hello Kitty & Peanuts, Coca-Cola, Beanie Babies, Barbie & Hot Wheels, and a cup featuring Shrek, Jurassic Park & Minions. The McDonald’s Global Chief Marketing Officer and Head of New Business Ventures, Morgan Flatley, said, “We’re bringing back some of our most-loved keepsakes with a twist, giving fans a memory that they can hold in their hands.”

While this would be good news on its own, people will be happy to know that they can order both breakfast (coffee, hash browns, and a sausage and egg McMuffin) and lunch/dinner (McNuggets or a Big Mac) to get one of the cups.

The nostalgic McDonald’s adult Happy Meals were a lot of fun, though. In September 2022, the fast food chain launched the adult Happy Meal via the Cactus Plant Flea Market Box, which included toys such as Cactus Buddy, Birdie, Hamburglar, and Grimace with the purchase of fries, a soda, and 10 McNuggets or a Big Mac. If someone was lucky enough to get one of those Happy Meals while it was offered, they know how much of a thrill it was.

In December 2023, according to Today, people were able to order a second adult Happy Meal called the Kerwin Frost Box. This one included the same food items along with several toys.

As discussed in the ’90s SubReddit, people started enjoying McDonald’s collectible cups a few decades ago, which is just one reason why the new cups are so exciting. Fans mentioned that they never threw away their Flintstone or Muppets collectible cups since they still meant a lot to them. One person commented that the Batman cup is a “god tier collectables, so nostalgic.”

Of course, while the Collectors Meal isn’t technically an adult Happy Meal, why not order it and pretend it is anyway? It’s a surefire way to add some happiness to an otherwise routine day.

Raising Cane’s is known across the United States for its delicious chicken fingers. However, in 2022 the restaurant involved itself in a pretty crazy, but completely justified, lawsuit.

The fast food chain opened its doors in 1996 and has expanded rapidly since then with there now being around 700 restaurants dotted across 38 states. Back around 2021/2022 Cane’s was making a push into the state of Indiana – part of this plan involved opening a new store in the Crossings of Hobart shopping center.

However, after Cane’s had invested a lot of time and money into what would have been a double drive-thru restaurant at the shopping center. In fact, the construction took place over eight months and cost roughly one million dollars; however, the doors to the now store would never open. In March 2022 Cane’s filed a lawsuit against the shopping center after details that would have affected business were brought to light. 

Crossings of Hobart were hiding something

So why were Cane’s suing the Indiana shopping center? Well it turns out if the restaurant had opened, it wouldn’t have been allowed to sell chicken fingers, you know, pretty much the only thing Cane’s is known for selling. An article from Fox59 reported that Crossings and Hobart already had a previously undisclosed deal which gave McDonald’s the exclusive rights to sell boneless chicken at the center.

The lawsuit filed by Cane’s claims that it was not informed of this exclusivity agreement between Crossing of Hobart owners, Schottenstein Property Group, and McDonald’s and if it had been made aware it obviously wouldn’t have signed a 15 year lease equating to two million dollars. The suit claims that the owners of the shopping center intentionally covered up the agreement between them and McDonald’s in order to trick Cane’s into agreeing.

The most baffling part is how Schottenstein Property Group stood by and watched millions of dollars and eight months of time go into constructing a restaurant they knew wouldn’t be able to sell food, and they thought they’d get away with it. While there are other things on the menu at Raising Cane’s it would be the same as opening a McDonald’s and then asking them not to sell anything with burgers – or stop selling Happy Meals.

The defendants even tried to sell exclusivity rights to Cane’s despite knowing that McDonald’s had held the rights since 1994. Apparently the deal was made by previous property managers and the new owners sought to get McDonald’s to waive its exclusivity rights on two occasions – both times the chain refused.

It seems the Schottenstein Property Group knew they had made an error but hoped to correct it before anyone found out. However, rather than fix the mistake, they simply strung Cane’s along for the better part of a year.

One thing you can almost guarantee anytime you scroll on TikTok is that you’re going to come across a truly crazy story or two. Whether it’s Reesa Teesa’s 50-part saga or a Tana Mongeau-style drama, the platform is basically its own streaming service at this point.

Cassia Elazae’s story, however, is a whole other level of crazy. She took to the social media app to tell the story of her and her fiancée being hit by a car while still in their home, and the internet could not get enough of the utterly terrifying tale. A video explaining that the man who hit them was the same one who let her cut in line at McDonald’s just a few hours earlier quickly racked up over a million views.

In short, she and her fiancée lived in an apartment at the end of a sharp turn without a guardrail. One morning, while the two of them were sleeping, a car rammed through their bedroom wall and hit them both. The time that followed was a haze of shouting, prying themselves out of the rubble, and emergency responders trying to help them. They both suffered major injuries and have a collection of scars to show for it.

Commenters are understandably concerned and completely enthralled by the unbelievable story. Most have sent well wishes to the couple as well as relief that the couple is still alive to tell the story. Others wished ill upon the driver who hit them, and a few shared their theory that such a traumatic event has earned the couple wonderful wealth in life for the rest of their lives.

This terrifying story is an important reminder of the dangers of driving and the risks of being hit by a car. Being hit by a car is not something you want to think about when going on walks or lying in bed (!), but according to the AAA Foundation, the risk of death for pedestrians who are hit by cars reaches 10% at an impact of just 23 miles an hour. That risk reaches 25% at 32 mph, 50% at 42 mph, 75% at 50 mph, and 98% at 58 mph. If those statistics along with Cassia’s story don’t give you cause enough to be a little more careful as a driver ⏤ or a pedestrian ⏤ then nothing will.

Here’s hoping that Cassia’s terrifying story leads people to slow down on the roads and that she and her fiancée have nothing but good things coming to them for the rest of their lives. Seriously, this story is enough trauma for 100 lifetimes. We wish them well and hope they move immediately.

Nonetheless, we still have a good four or five hours to grab some hotcakes every morning! When McDonald’s stops serving breakfast altogether, that’s when we will have to have a word with the company, but fortunately, that doesn’t look as if it’ll happen anytime soon.

For each Happy Meal you received, you’d get a tiny Squishmallow to squeeze to your heart’s content. Everyone knows how Happy Meals works, after all. However, while Squish fans all over the world were already collecting their plushies, U.S.-based fans were left in the dark… until today.

McDonald’s has finally confirmed that all twelve of the Squishmallow characters will be within our reach in the next couple of days – at long last – so here’s when you can get it.

When is the Squishmallows Happy Meal coming out?

The Happy Meal toys containing Squishmallows will finally arrive at McDonald’s locations across the United States on December 26. All twelve Squishmallows will be part of the collection, including Cam and Fifi. What’s more, there will even be a surprise addition to the roster: Grimace is ing the lineup. That’s right, the collaboration wouldn’t be complete without the McDonald’s mascot.

In addition to the tiny collectable plushies, each Squishmallow will be accompanied by a unique playlist, created by none other than the Universal Music Group. Each Happy Meal box will contain a QR code that families can scan to access the playlist corresponding to their character. And yes, the playlists were carefully curated to match each Squish’s personality.

So there you have it. While we understand that, after all the holiday festivities, everyone may be considering their next gym hip, there’s still always room for a Happy Meal.
