Jason Momoa is a well-known actor famous for his roles in Aquaman and Game of Thrones as Khal Drogo. But where’s our guy from?

He has a rich and diverse ethnic background, with roots in Polynesian, European, and Indigenous American ancestry. This mix of cultures plays an important role in shaping who he is, both personally and professionally. Understanding his heritage helps to make sense of his achievements and the recent controversies surrounding him.

His mixed heritage has clearly impacted his acting career. His Polynesian features and strong physical presence have made him a recognizable figure in Hollywood, especially in roles that highlight strength and exotic qualities. For instance, playing Aquaman connects directly to his Polynesian roots. Likewise, his role as Khal Drogo showcased his ability to bring powerful, culturally significant characters to life. This demonstrated the advantages of his multi-ethnic background and how he can feel foreign to many when he tries to.

Where is Jason Momoa’s family from?

Jason Momoa’s ethnicity is multiracial, according to Sportskeeda. He has Native Hawaiian, Irish, German, and Pawnee ancestry. On his father’s side, Momoa is Native Hawaiian, a heritage he proudly embraces. This connection to Hawaii has driven his activism, especially in opposing the Thirty Meter Telescope’s construction on Mauna Kea, which is sacred to Native Hawaiians. He is also involved in broader environmental issues, such as fighting ocean pollution and reducing plastic use. His dedication to these causes reflects his deep ties to Hawaiian culture and the natural world.

Momoa’s mother has Irish, German, and Pawnee lineage. While the specific Pawnee tribal affiliation isn’t provided, this Indigenous American background adds another aspect to his diverse identity. This variety shows how some can identify with multiple cultures simultaneously, but it is clear that Momoa takes a lot of pride in his Hawaiian heritage.

Momoa’s public display of his Hawaiian heritage has recently caused controversy within the Native Hawaiian community. According to Yahoo, critics accuse him of “prostitution” and “commodifying” Hawaiian culture, particularly due to his social media activities and TV appearances. For example, some see his wearing of a malo — a traditional Hawaiian garment — as an attempt to exploit Hawaiian culture for personal gain.

This backlash is rooted in a significant historical context. Native Hawaiians have faced a long history of being sexualized and exoticized, starting from when Christian missionaries arrived and suppressed various traditional practices, labeling them as morally wrong. This legacy of exploitation has made the representation of Hawaiian culture in mainstream media a sensitive issue. Reactions to Momoa’s actions demonstrate the deep concerns within the community about the appropriation and misrepresentation of their cultural identity.

Some Native Hawaiians defend Momoa, as reported by Madhyamam, and recognize the positive representation he brings. Momoa may be doing his best to shine a light on Hawaiians while showcasing the importance of representing Hawaiian culture authentically and respectfully. It’s up in the air, as no one but Momoa knows why he is so public about his heritage, and it is very likely that he is just proud of where he comes from.

A familiar face from the DC universe ditches heroics to embrace darker role in James Gunn’s latest project https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/comicbooks/a-familiar-face-from-the-dc-universe-ditches-heroics-to-embrace-darker-role-in-james-gunns-latest-project/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/comicbooks/a-familiar-face-from-the-dc-universe-ditches-heroics-to-embrace-darker-role-in-james-gunns-latest-project/#respond Tue, 31 Dec 2024 18:01:52 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1817928 They called.]]>

Batman may be on the back burner for DC, but James Gunn’s extended world continues to spin. In addition to his Superman movie, Kal-El’s cousin will make her solo film debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Gunn’s universe has already gone to task in reinventing the brand and he has recently added a familiar face to the mix. According to the Dune actor himself, Jason Momoa has been cast as the villain, Lobo. Momoa’s previous work in the DC universe is not cause for concern. After playing Arthur Curry in two Aquaman films, he will return to DC as one of his favorite characters. Momoa took to Instagram to officially drop the news. He posted a quote from an interview several years back about his hopes for his comic book future.

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.'”

Momoa indicated that no one would have to twist his arm to audition for Lobo in the future. Patience is a virtue because, as Momoa succinctly said in his post, “They called.”

Momoa has now been confirmed to portray the role he has been gunning for in a surprising twist of fate.

Lobo is no Aquaman

James Gunn came into control of the DC brand at just the right moment. For the past decade, DC has been trailing behind its rival Marvel in of quality. But following the magnum opus, Endgame, there was a void to be filled. Marvel could never quite top the film and now it is DC’s time to shine. The success of Matt Reeves’ Batman started a butterfly effect that has created a new era for DC. Since Gunn took over as the creative head of the brand, he has been making waves.

Superman is one of the most anticipated films of 2025 and Supergirl already carries some heat. The role of Kara Zor-El has been awarded to House of the Dragon actor Milly Alcock. The young performer portrayed Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first half of Season 1. Jason Momoa will add to the high-profile film as a veteran of DC. His new character, however, varies distinctly from the rambunctious and fun-loving Aquaman. The illegitimate son of Queen Atlanna of Atlantis, Arthur never thought he would have real responsibilities. His desire to do good contradicts his half-brother Orm’s need for control.

In Supergirl, Momoa will lean more toward Orm on the personality scale. Lobo is an anti-hero character, first introduced to DC Comics in 1983. Hailing from the utopian planet of Czarnia, Lobo becomes a bounty hunter of the stars. After falling out of favor, the character was revitalized in the ’90s. While he was meant to be a parody of heroic characters such as Marvel’s Wolverine, he became a hit with fans — including Momoa. Viewers will have to wait for some time for the release of Supergirl, but in the meantime, can read up on some of Momoa’s favorite comic book characters.

A Minecraft Movie has turned out to be quite the impressive endeavor — impressive in that its cast, its crew, and the film itself have managed to make the wrong move at every turn. Atrocious visuals straight from a pixelated fever dream? Check. Jack Black phoning it in during the nadir of his popularity, post-Kyle Gass break-up? Check. Troubling allegations against leading man, Jason Momoa? Apparently, check.

Following Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom failing to break even for Warner Bros. last December, Momoa is in dire need of a smash-hit blockbuster to his name, but unfortunately it looks like he might’ve put his eggs in the wrong basket with A Minecraft Movie. At least, that’s going by the intensely negative buzz surrounding the release of its first teaser trailer. Even worse, it seems like making the film was about as much fun as being killed by a creeper, too, as Momoa himself is being accused of mistreating the crew on set.

What has YouTuber Valkyrae accused Jason Momoa of doing on the set of A Minecraft Movie?

Any allegations of professional misconduct are a serious problem for an actor, but that goes double when the person accusing them is an internet celebrity with considerable sway. Such is the case for Jason Momoa, who is facing some alarming accusations courtesy of YouTube and streaming star Valkyrae.

Valkyrae — real name, Rachel Hoffstetter, who has over 4 million followers on YouTube — recently appeared on JasonTheWeem’s stream for a live Q&A which saw her asked to name her worst interaction with a celebrity. Even though she was told she didn’t have to name names, Hofstetter declared that she wanted to call this person out.

The YouTuber explained that she was on set of A Minecraft Movie one day to shoot a brief cameo for the film, and during this experience, she claims to have witnessed Momoa “mistreat” certain of the movie’s crew. Valkyrae alleged:

“I just saw [Momoa] mistreat some of the crew, and it was pretty disappointing. It was after a very intense scene, and it was a very emotional scene, so maybe he was still in character. I don’t know. But, I just was kind of surprised by how he treated some of the crew.”

When pressed for further details, Hofstetter clarified that Momoa got “really mad” over some supposed mistake made by these crew . Overall, Valkyrae came away with a poor opinion of the film’s working conditions.

“He was just really mad at them, that they weren’t doing something right… Setting up the shot and stuff… He was just angry… and yelling. So, I was like, ‘Man, this is not a good work environment. I would not be happy working under these conditions.'”

This actually isn’t the only time that Momoa has been on the receiving end of hostile workplace behavior. His DC co-star and on-screen wife Amber Heard once claimed that he deliberately aggravated her on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom by turning up dressed like her ex-husband Johnny Depp, not to mention fighting to reduce her role in the sequel. These days, Momoa himself has been booted out of the throne of Atlantis, as per James Gunn’s incoming franchise-wide reboot.

Momoa has yet to address Valkyrae’s comments, but it looks like her accusations have become one more to stick (or maybe pickaxe) to beat A Minecraft Movie with ahead of its release on April 4, 2025. I guess at least we know that it will have some “very intense” and “very emotional” scenes in it. That’s something, right?

Well, folks, the great low-poly tide is finally upon us, and our subconscious is now destined to become the uncanny stomping ground of Warner Bros.’ next specter, from which there is no escape and for whose actions we cannot be responsible for. I speak, of course, of the incoming Minecraft movie, which just released its first trailer earlier today, along with its official title.

This film shall be henceforth known as A Minecraft Movie. Think about that for a moment: “A” rather than “The.” A Minecraft Movie implies additional Minecraft movies, perhaps in the same vein as this incomprehensible eldritch sigil that Warner Bros. will be releasing to theaters next year. Humanity is finished; there is only Jack Black and his gruff portrayal of Steve.

Look at the llamas. Look at the pigs. Look at the flora, the wolves, and the mortal essence of the (ittedly refreshingly) colorful CGI that coats this ghostly canvas. Look at it all and say to my face that this is the work of humans. You cannot.

Chaos is no stranger to X, but in giving the denizens of the platform a morsel like this to chew on, there is nothing but madness. What’s A Minecraft Movie going to be about, you ask? It’s not a question of what it’s about, but a question of how it understands us, a question that has no answer.

Yes, give it the Oscar. Satiate it.

Is this the face of a man in the vicinity of his metaphysical equal?

Let’s talk details in hopes that their tangibility can help offset the insurmountable mental inundation cast upon us by these visual effects. Jared Hess—of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre fame—spearheads A Minecraft Movie‘s directorial efforts from a screenplay by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, while Black takes on the aforementioned role of Steve. It won’t come as much of a surprise if he ends up being the standout in a similar manner that he was as Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, thoroughly entertaining in a way that’s almost separate from the entire rest of the film.

Elsewhere, Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Sebastian Eugene Hansen Jennifer Collidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement all star alongside Jason Momoa, who plays a character named Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison. The film will follow four humans from four different walks of life (Myers, Brooks, Hansen, Momoa) as they learn to honor their creativity as an indispensable resource, all while fighting off dangers in the form of the Piglin army and, of course, creepers.

A Minecraft Movie hits theaters on April 4, 2025. Start the doomsday clocks folks, our eyes will never be the same again.

Barbie proved to be unstoppable at the box office last year, but it turns out she can be superseded on streaming. And don’t tell Alexandra Shipp’s Writer Barbie, but one of the films triumphing over it is a spinoff of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The other two happen to star near-miss Ken Timothée Chalamet, the Warner Bros. It Boy himself, who’s just signed a lucrative first-look deal to keep him at the studio. And who can blame the company for shelling out the big bucks (specific figures have not been revealed, but you can bet it’s bigger than Ken’s ego) when Dune: Part Two is earning universal acclaim and exceeding $575.5 million globally.

Multiply the Chalamet Charm by a double dose of Jason Momoa and you apparently have a formula for streaming success.

Only the combined forces of Timothée Chalamet and Jason Momoa can put Barbie back in her box

Paul Atreides in Dune Part 2

As per FlixPatrol, the typically totemic Barbie is no longer in the top three most-watched movies on Max right now, with the gold, silver, and bronze positions on the worldwide charts being claimed by Wonka, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Dune.

Those three movies cover all three sections of the Chalamet/Momoa Venn diagram. Wonka is a Timmy C vehicle, the Aquaman sequel naturally brings back Momoa as the king of the sea, and Dune features Chalamet as sand messiah Paul Atreides, with Momoa in the ing role of Duncan Idaho (not the actor’s favorite character name, FYI).

We’re expecting Momoa to return for a cameo in the Dune franchise one of these days, but it seems the pair are inadvertently reuniting sooner than expected for this streaming stratagem to show Barbie who’s boss. Both actors are two of WB’s go-to stars, so clearly the studio needs to cast the pair in some kind of oddball buddy-cop movie and audiences would go gaga for it.

Or, you know, if Jake Gyllenhaal’s imagined Batman needs a Nightwing to help battle Momoa’s Lobo, Chalamet is right there. Send us an email, David Zaslav, and we’ll talk.

The cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies is exceptional. A list of Hollywood’s most resounding names cherry-picked for their screen presence and ability to shoulder the massive weight of Frank Herbert’s source material. Jason Momoa fits the bill as few do.

The 44-year-old actor, who rose to fame on a similarly hefty book-to-screen adaptation as Game of Thrones‘ Khal Drogo, breathed life into the character of Duncan Idaho, House Atreides‘ most skilled soldier, pilot, and fighter.

What happens to Duncan Idaho in Dune?

Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho in 'Dune'.

In the first film, we witness the close bond between Duncan and Timothée Chalamet’s Duke Paul Atreides, who sees the older man as an idol and a brother figure. He’s fascinated by Duncan’s of his time living with the Fremen and asks to tag along on his missions.

When Arrakeen, the fortress stronghold on Arrakis and the Atreides’ new home on the desert planet, is attacked by the Harkonnens and the Emperor’s troops, Duncan is one of the few who manages to escape, taking an ornithopter (the insect-shaped helicopters of Herbert’s fictional universe) with him. He later rescues Paul and his mother Lady Jessica from the desert, taking them to a Fremen hide-out in an old Botanical Testing Station.

The Emperor’s elite military force, the Sardaukar, eventually finds them, and Duncan heroically sacrifices himself to save Paul. He takes on a large group of the universe’s strongest soldiers by himself, and holds out for an impressive amount of time, before eventually succumbing to his wounds.

In his short amount of screen time, Jason Momoa became one of Dune‘s stand-out performances as Duncan’s relationship with Paul provided a kind of comradery and vulnerability that is rare in Herbert and Villeneuve’s epic-scaled space opera.

Does Duncan return for Dune: Part Two?

No. Following his death, Duncan is not brought back for Dune: Part Two, not even via flashbacks. He’s barely even mentioned by name in the film, which is a shame considering how special his friendship with Paul was in the first installment. Nevertheless, his death is eventually avenged by the Duke-turned-Messiah and another important member of House Atreides, thought to be dead in the 2021’s Dune.

His now-iconic battle salute, which Momoa himself came up with as a nod to his son’s Kali training is, however, mimicked by Paul during one of the most intense battles in Part Two — a quiet yet powerful homage to a close friend. “That’s a Kali move, where you put your hand on your heart and put it on your head. That’s to Timothée in the movie, but that’s to my son in real life,” Momoa told IndieWire in 2021.

Those familiar with the source material know that, in the books at least, Duncan’s death at the Botanical Testing Station is not the end for his character. We will keep it as vague as possible so as not to ruin it for those who, unlike me, have successfully fought off their curiosity to find out what happens in Dune Messiah, but let’s just say we might see more of Jason Momoa in Arrakis yet.

Try as James Gunn might to remake the DCU anew, Marvel’s much-plagued competitor just can’t shrug off the troubles of its past. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the final DCEU movie, was already struggling to earn much good will ahead of its release this December, but that’s only been compounded by a new report alleging some unprofessional on-set behavior from the sequel’s leading man, Jason Momoa. And, in doing so, it casts The Flash‘s post-credits scene in a whole new light.

As Variety reports, notes from Amber Heard’s therapist, Dr. Dawn Hughes, that were used in the much-publicized Johnny Depp defamation trial, have emerged which detail allegations against Momoa. Echoing some accusations we’ve heard before, the Justice League actor is said to have turned up to set intoxicated and deliberately dressed similarly to Depp. Not to mention pushing for Heard to be removed from the production.

“Jason said he wanted me fired,” the notes, transcribing Heard’s comments, read. “Jason drunk — late on set. Dressing like Johnny. Has all the rings too.”

While Momoa’s reps declined to respond when asked to comment, a DC press agent dismissed Heard’s claims, arguing: “Jason Momoa conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” An insider Variety spoke to, meanwhile, likewise wouldn’t corroborate the allegations. “Jason works his ass off, likes to have a beer once in a while like everyone, but doesn’t show up drunk to set,” says the unnamed individual. “And he isn’t dressing like Johnny Depp. He has always dressed in that bohemian style.”

Regardless of whether Heard’s accusations about Momoa are true, however, the fact that such interpersonal drama and these allegations were brewing behind the scenes makes DC’s decision to end The Flash in the way it did all the more surprising. If you’ll recall, The Flash concluded on a post-credits scene in which Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) escorts a highly inebriated Arthur Curry home after a night out together. This sequence is known to have been a late-in-the-day addition, filmed post-Gunn takeover.

In other words, this scene was created and shot long after the Aquaman 2 set drama took place and while the Depp v. Heard defamation trial was raging on. The King of Atlantis has been depicted as being a guy who likes a drink in both Aquaman and Justice League, so presumably it was just riffing on that rather than anything Momoa may or may not have done, but it’s turned out to be yet another example of DC’s behind-the-scenes struggles being plainly written on screen.

The only person likely to be caught off-guard by the reports claiming none of the DCEU’s established Justice League will be returning for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reboot is Gal Gadot, with the Wonder Woman actress remaining entirely convinced that she’s got a future as the lasso-wielding superhero.

Superman has already been recast, Ray Fisher took himself out of the running to return as Cyborg, Ben Affleck confirmed he was retiring as Batman for a second time, Ezra Miller’s solo adventure as the Flash became one of the biggest box office bombs of all-time, and the smart money is increasingly being placed on Jason Momoa coming back under new management as Lobo, so it’s goodbye to the OGs.

Gadot and Momoa have at least been sharing the screen in a brand new project, though, with set photos (per The Daily Mail) from literary adaptation In the Hand of Dante showcasing the ex-Justice League alongside Oscar Isaac in what looks to be a rather intense standoff.

justice league

Julian Schnabel is directing the project, which dovetails between the 14th Century and present day, focusing on fictionalized versions of the novel’s author Nick Tosches (played by Isaac) and the poet Dante Alighieri.

Interestingly, Johnny Depp optioned the rights back in 2008, and tried to get it off the ground for a decade before Schnabel ended up moving forward without the Pirates of the Caribbean star, with Isaac stepping in to play the role he’d earmarked for himself.

Of course, Momoa and Depp have been ed at the hip for all the wrong reasons lately, making In the Hand of Dante an even more intriguing coincidence.

James Gunn has officially taken the reigns as an executive at DC Studios alongside Co-CEO Peter Safran, ushering in the rebooted film franchise known as the DC Universe. However, does this mean one of the legacy actors with the previous iteration, Jason Momoa, may finally have his shot at portraying the space bounty hunter known as Lobo?

Momoa turned out to be box office gold for Warner Bros’ soon-to-be-defunct DC Extended Universe, with his titular role in Aquaman generating the one and only billion-dollar worldwide box office movie for the entire cinematic universe to date. What’s more, Momoa is slated to star in the sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, on December 20. With that in mind, it’s surely in WB’s own best interest to retain Momoa as Arthur Curry…or is it?

Goodbye Aquaman, hello Lobo?

Though Gunn is rebooting the universe, that doesn’t mean all of the actors who were part of the previous franchise are going away completely. You see, Gunn confirmed on Threads just last week that Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and John Cena’s Peacemaker were all slated to return, as we previously reported. Nowhere in that social media post was Momoa mentioned, but we wouldn’t count him out entirely as having a future in the DCU.

In fact, a recent report in Variety even claimed, based on unnamed sources, that “the actor has engaged in talks to play Lobo.” That same article stated none of the original Justice League actors would be returning for the DCU as their original characters. For those who want additional verification, have there been any hints outside the article that Momoa will be playing Lobo?

It turns out, that Momoa has heavily hinted at a secretive DC project that is forthcoming after he made a surprise Instagram story in which he shouted with glee in a video following a meeting with Gunn and Safran back in January. Though the title of the project wasn’t named, it added fuel to the fire of the pre-existing rumor that Momoa was being considered for the part of Lobo, a role for which the actor has long expressed enthusiasm since as early as 2014 and even before he was cast as Aquaman.

A rumor mill that’s been building for years

Lobo
Image via DC Comics

Back in November 2022, it was Gunn himself who fueled the speculation among fans when his very first post on the social media site Mastadon was an image of Lobo. Momoa wasn’t specifically mentioned at the time, though the rumor mill about him playing Lobo has been active for the better part of the past half of a decade now.

Around that same time, Momoa was quoted on Entertainment Tonight Canada as saying one of his “dreams come true will be happening” under Safran and Gunn. When CBR then followed that up by asking Momoa to “blink twice” if that project involved Lobo, he said:

“Well I have to obviously blink, so there’s no way I can get out of this without blinking, but you know that would be amazing if that happened.”

In regard to the mystery project, Momoa added: “Comic book fans around the world are going to be very excited.” He went on to say the project was “definitely something I’ve collected my whole life […] I collect this comic book the most.”

Assuming the latest reports are true, what is the earliest we can expect Momoa to appear as Lobo? According to the Variety piece, it could happen as soon as 2025’s Superman: Legacy.

Which DC actors are seemingly confirmed to never appear in the DCU? https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/movies/which-dc-actors-are-seemingly-confirmed-to-never-appear-in-the-dcu/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/movies/which-dc-actors-are-seemingly-confirmed-to-never-appear-in-the-dcu/#respond Tue, 10 Oct 2023 20:49:28 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1602237 Here's hoping the Justice League has a severance package.]]>

The toxic fandoms. The on-set dramas. The fact that there have only been about one and a half really good movies about Superman in the last 50 years. You have to wonder if James Gunn goes to bed most nights imagining how much better life would have been if he’d just kept to his corner of the MCU, making emotionally devastating big-screen excuses to paint Karen Gillan blue every couple of years.

But he didn’t. He took a job with DC Films, where every hero in a stable of characters has spent the last decade getting high-grit sandpaper crazy glued to their backstories. As part of that job, a cleansing fire is burning across the IP, selectively sparing a few performers while sending the rest back to central casting. Here’s a look at who got burnt.

Jason Momoa as Aquaman

It was a real Cinderella story when Jason Momoa brought his take on Aquaman to the screen, eschewing the traditional goofy fish talk in favor of attitude, pecs, and a seaside trailer park Rob Zombie aesthetic. Against all odds, his charisma and drawing power turned his solo movie, Aquaman, into the highest-grossing entry in the DCEU.

But a king’s reign can’t last forever, and Momoa is reportedly out as the undersea hero moving forward. Reports of Elon Musk-heavy shenanigans on the set of Aquaman 2, in addition to the underwhelming lead-up to the sequel’s universe-ending finale, seem to point to Warner Bros. keeping a weather eye on the horizon for a new King of Atlantis. Meanwhile, rumors putting Momoa in the motorcycle boots of DC’s main man Lobo remain speculative at best.

Ben Affleck as Batman

Anyone with so much as a tertiary interest in the DCEU knows that Ben Affleck is done playing Batman. Anyone who saw The Flash knows that he’s been done playing Batman since… well, since before he shot his scenes for The Flash. He’s tired. Leave him alone. Let him go kiss Jennifer Lopez and eat his Dunkin’ Donuts in peace.

Henry Cavill as Superman

Tenures in the DCEU didn’t come much more embattled than Henry Cavill’s. Through the good times and the bad, the mustaches and the crazy CGI philtrums, the scene in Justice League where he stared down Flash in slow motion, and the scenes in Justice League where he went goth for no reason, he was there. Imposing. Chesty. Uncharacteristically annoyed by people, considering how much time he spent saving them.

Despite the Black Adam tease and the implied promise of more to come, Cavill’s time as the Man of Steel is at an end – not with a bang, but with a super questionable CGI render during The Flash.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

This one’s complicated. Even hardcore never-Snyderversers had to it that Gal Gadot did as good a job playing Wonder Woman as was humanly possible. Even so, the results were all over the place – the iconic heroine’s second solo feature hit audiences with a wet thud, nobody walked away from Justice League sporting their best look, and the Diana cameos that followed — in an increasingly confused DCEU — felt gimmicky and cheap.

Further muddying the waters, a long list of mixed messages have hit the internet since the birth of the DCU made waves. According to Variety, Gadot is out. According to Gadot, Gadot is in. According to James Gunn, we’ll have to wait and see.

Ezra Miller as the Flash

Okay, so, for the cheap seats: If anyone is definitely out of the DC cinematic universe — like, more out than Ben Affleck which, again, is saying something — it’s Ezra Miller. Their last movie was a semi-historic flop that reviewed about as well as Wonder Woman 1984 after years of hype and an ever-expanding budget.

But it was doomed to begin with. The film had been in development hell for decades and DCEU was already drowning in the aftermath of Justice League, so it definitely didn’t help when Miller’s personal life added to the troubles and became a PR nightmare for Warner Bros. execs. It didn’t exactly shed a positive life on the film’s potential to sidestep disaster or the actor’s future in DC land.

George Clooney as Batman

What seemed like a promise of redemptive things to come at the end of The Flash turned out to be a goof – not just any goof, either. A third-draft goof. Despite a good-natured, why-not attitude from both Clooney and audiences in general, James Gunn has since confirmed that the Bruce Wayne of Batman and Robin is not the DCU’s Batman moving forward. Put another way, he’s been iced out.

DC blasts back at rumors an intoxicated Jason Momoa would dress like Johnny Depp on ‘Aquaman 2’ set to torment Amber Heard https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/movies/dc-blasts-back-at-rumors-an-intoxicated-jason-momoa-would-dress-like-johnny-depp-on-aquaman-2-set-to-torment-amber-heard/ https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/movies/dc-blasts-back-at-rumors-an-intoxicated-jason-momoa-would-dress-like-johnny-depp-on-aquaman-2-set-to-torment-amber-heard/#respond Tue, 10 Oct 2023 15:13:11 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1601967 It's not as if they'd come right out and it it, either.]]>

Last month, the controversy surrounding Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom deepened even further when notes taken by Amber Heard‘s therapist to be used as evidence during her trial opposite ex-husband Johnny Depp were made public, reopening a can of worms that refuses to stay closed.

In the documents, the actress alleged that not only did co-star Jason Momoa and director James Wan try to have her fired, but the leading man would allegedly come to the set under the influence of alcohol and dressed in Depp-esque attire, presumably for no other reason than to make Heard’s life a misery.

Variety has attempted to uncover the truth of the matter, and while neither the DCEU’s Arthur Curry or Mera chose to comment on the matter, a spokesperson for DC stepped in to vehemently deny that Momoa had done, or would do, any such thing.

“Jason Momoa conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

Hardly illuminating, but another unnamed source offered that “Jason works his ass off, likes to have a beer once in a while like everyone, but doesn’t show up drunk to set. And he isn’t dressing like Johnny Depp. He has always dressed in that bohemian style,” which does ittedly track.

It remains a murky situation for all intents and purposes, then, especially when the two key players in the story have refused to talk about it in public. Not a good look for DC either way, considering Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is finally gearing up to hit theaters two years behind schedule in December.

10 alternate Marvel castings we need to see as MCU multiverse variants https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/marvel/10-alternate-marvel-castings-we-need-to-see-as-mcu-multiverse-variants/#respond Mon, 25 Sep 2023 14:20:01 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.isosite.org/?p=1591697 Is there room for Superior Iron Man in the MCU? If so, we know the perfect actor for it.]]>

With the MCU’s Multiverse Saga now in full swing, it has opened the full gates for alternate versions of our favorite characters. This new plot device has been used to great effect in movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Disney Plus series What If…?.

However, there’s always room for more variants to enter the fold. And since we have the better part of two whole phases to get through following this thematic thread of alternate dimensions, why not speculate on who they could cast next as variants">Amanda Seyfried, who turned it down thinking the first film would flop, as Cosmo pointed out. Though Seyfried could not have been more wrong, there’s now a good excuse to bring her back to the fold as yet another Gamora variant.

You see, Gamora was developing quite a romantic relationship with Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill for a while there. However, the original Gamora died in the MCU while a variant of her from 2014 was introduced. This 2014 Gamora had no interest in starting a relationship with Peter in Vol. 3 as she was significantly more hardened as Thanos’ former lieutenant and daughter. The solution to giving Peter his overdue happy ending? Bring in a Gamora from another universe, played by Seyfried, who is kinder, gentler, and actually has chemistry with the self-proclaimed Star-Lord.
