Demon Slayer finished its fourth season earlier this year, and now fans finally have an idea of when the franchise will return to finish the story… and it’s coming sooner than you might think.

The Demon Slayer anime is set to be concluded with a trilogy of films released exclusively in theaters called Infinity Castle. As the name suggests, the films will adapt the Infinity Castle Arc from the manga, and the last movie is likely to bring the final Sunrise Countdown Arc to screens. That’s music to my ears.

A new trailer was released on Dec. 8, 2024 for the first movie in the trilogy, and it showcases our beloved heroes heading into battle against Muzan, but that wasn’t all it included. The clip also unveiled a release timeframe for the movie… even more music to my ears!

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part One will be released in theaters around Japan in 2025. Right now, an exact date has not been shared, nor has the release timeframe for international fans been confirmed, so don’t expect to see it in the United States until later in the new year. The good news is that Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures have already announced their acquisition of the trilogy for international release, so it is definitely coming to you at some point, no matter where you live.

The new trailer was released both in subbed and dubbed, with more than two minutes of visuals from the movie. Some snippets show Muzan revealing his goals as Tanjiro and the Hashira get ready to strike him down. We also see all of the breathing arts activated as the group of Demon Slayers approach him, but they’re all transported into a puzzling cityscape, the Infinity Castle.

Before the footage was made available online, it was initially revealed at a CCXP in Brazil. What was shown at the convention was the same thing that fans can now see now online.

As you would expect, this first trailer sets the stage for the manga’s iconic final battle, but it doesn’t do a lot else to provide insight into the movie or where exactly it will finish up for part two. Given this story is set to be released in three parts, it’s more than likely that this 2025 release will conclude on a cliffhanger… so start preparing yourselves for that inevitable end-of-movie tease now.

It’s going to be a bittersweet time for Demon Slayer diehards in the coming years. While the anime is ending, it also means you’re going to be getting some of the highest quality animation and best story that the franchise has to offer, as a kind of last hoorah in honor of fans. Giyu Tomioka – Water Hashira

Giyu Tomioka, the stoic and reserved Water Hashira, survives the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji. Despite facing numerous injuries and the loss of many comrades, Giyu continues to uphold his duty. He emerges from the war, scarred but alive, living on to honor the memories of his fallen friends and to protect humanity.

Kyojuro Rengoku – Flame Hashira

Kyojuro Rengoku experiences a heroic, yet tragic death early on in Demon Slayer, during the Mugen Train arc. He battles the Upper Rank Three demon, Akaza, with unmatched courage and skill. Although Kyojuro succumbs to his wounds, his fiery spirit and legacy inspire the younger generation of Demon Slayers, particularly Tanjiro Kamado.

Shinobu Kocho – Insect Hashira

Shinobu Kocho, known for her grace and venomous techniques, faces the Upper Rank Two demon Doma who had killed her sister Kanae. Sadly, she sacrifices herself in the battle to defeat him. She injects a lethal amount of wisteria poison into her body, hoping to weaken Doma. Although she dies, her sacrifice is not in vain, as her efforts ultimately contribute to Doma’s defeat by Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke Hashibira.

Tengen Uzui – Sound Hashira

Tengen Uzui retires from active duty after the intense battle against the Upper Rank Six demon siblings, Gyutaro and Daki, during the Entertainment District arc. The battle leaves him severely injured, and Tengen loses an arm and an eye. Recognizing his own limitations, Tengen steps down and retires from the Demon Slayer Corps. He, however, continues to the Demon Slayer Corps in a less active role, focusing on his family and healing.

Muichiro Tokito – Mist Hashira

Muichiro Tokito, the prodigious Mist Hashira, faces an untimely demise during the battle with Kokushibo, the Upper Rank One demon. Despite his young age, Muichiro fights valiantly and significantly wounds Kokushibo with his red katana before dying. His death is particularly gruesome to witness, as he dies painfully at the hands of his ancestor. Muichiro’s determination and strength leave a lasting impact on his fellow Demon Slayers.

Mitsuri Kanroji – Love Hashira

Mitsuri Kanroji, known for her overwhelming strength and cheerful demeanor, meets her end during the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji. Fighting alongside her comrades, she gives her all to protect humanity. Mitsuri dies from her injuries in the fight against Muzan, making for one of the saddest deaths in Demon Slayer.

Obanai Iguro – Serpent Hashira

Obanai Iguro fights bravely in the final confrontation with Muzan Kibutsuji. Despite his severe injuries, he continues to battle alongside his comrades, particularly Mitsuri Kanroji, with whom he shares a deep bond. Obanai ultimately succumbs to his wounds but dies with Mitsuri in his arms, both expressing their unspoken love for each other. Unable to separate their bodies, the two are eventually buried together.

Sanemi Shinazugawa – Wind Hashira

In Demon Slayer, Sanemi Shinazugawa survives the final battle, despite suffering grievous injuries. His relentless spirit and sheer willpower see him through the end of the war against demons. Sanemi lives on, carrying the painful memories of his fallen comrades, his traumatic past, and the death of his brother Genya, vowing to protect the peace they fought for.

Gyomei Himejima – Stone Hashira

Gyomei Himejima, the towering and kind-hearted Stone Hashira, fights valiantly in the final battle against Muzan and the Upper Ranks. He wins his fight against Kokushibo, but despite his immense strength and unwavering resolve, Gyomei is badly injured while battling Muzan. After Muzan is defeated, he succumbs to his injuries and meets his end.

Nezuko Kamado

Tanjiro is also very caring towards his friends in the Demon Slayer Corps. His youthful determination and comion make him a beloved character. Tanjiro’s journey is marked by relentless training, battles against formidable demons, and the forging of strong bonds with his fellow demon slayers.

Inosuke Hashibira

Inosuke Hashibira, known for his wild and aggressive personality, is also 15 years old, like Tanjiro. Raised by boars in the mountains, Inosuke’s survival instincts and combat skills are exceptional. His age might surprise some, given his intense demeanor and physical prowess. Despite his rough exterior, Inosuke has moments of vulnerability and a desire for recognition, which endears him to fans.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

Zenitsu Agatsuma, the cowardly, yet talented swordsman, is 16 years old. Despite his frequent displays of fear, Zenitsu possesses incredible potential when he’s unconscious, showcasing his lightning-fast techniques. Unlike traditional demon slayers, Genya consumes demon flesh to gain their powers temporarily. As fans of Demon Slayer set reminders for the next episode release, they might find themselves in a bit of a pickle. Why? Because despite their best efforts, they won’t find a release date for Season 4, episode 9. The reason is as simple as it is surprising — there isn’t one.

Season 4 of Demon Slayer, which premiered on May 12, 2024, brought us deep into the heart of the Hashira Training Arc. Here, we saw our protagonist, Tanjiro, knocking on the doors of various Hashira to learn their unique training regimes. With Nezuko, his sister, now immune to sunlight, and Muzan Kibutsuji—the demon boss himself—aware of this development, a showdown is inevitable. Muzan’s greatest fear, the sun, is now within reach of being conquered, and Tanjiro has to prepare for an all-out war. 

But just as viewers adjusted settled in for a long season, it wrapped up abruptly on June 30, 2024, with only eight episodes under its belt. “Wait, what">weekly anticipation for new episodes might be over, the adventure is far from done.

Fans of the Demon Slayer anime are in for a treat as a new three-part movie is in development following the explosive ending of season 4.

The Demon Slayer has been a hit series since its debut in 2019, delivering four action-packed seasons. Season 4, which premiered on May 12, 2024, has concluded with a bang, the kind where the main antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji, decides to crash the party at the worst possible moment. Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayers, made the ultimate sacrifice in the finale. With each season, the demons have gotten deadlier, and the Hashira have gotten, well, Hashira-ier. Now with the confirmation of the movie trilogy, it’s clear that the story of Tanjiro and his fellow Demon Slayers is far from over.

Demon Slayer movie release date

Well, if history is any indication, the Demon Slayer franchise has never been one to keep fans waiting. With a new release every year, it’s safe to assume that we’ll be getting the first movie in 2025, followed by the next in 2026, and the grand finale in 2027. That’s right, we have got a three-year plan to emotionally destroy ourselves! For those of you holding out hope for a season 5, I’m afraid it’s not in the cards. This trilogy will serve as the conclusion to the Demon Slayer story, meaning there will not be a season 5 of the anime series.

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced their partnership to bring the Demon Slayer movie trilogy to theaters across the globe. However, this distribution deal excludes select Asian territories, which may have their own arrangements for the release of the Demon Slayer movies.

Cast details

You can take comfort in knowing that the series remains in the capable hands of its talented staff and cast. Haruo Sotozaki, who has directed the anime since its inception, will continue to helm the project at Ufotable. Alongside Sotozaki, Akira Matsushima will reprise his role as chief animation director and character designer. The soundtrack will once again be composed by the dynamic duo of Yuki Kajiura and Go Shiina. But we are awaiting more details from the creators.

Demon Slayer fans everywhere are on course to sob many a familiar sob before long, now that the anime has finally caught up to the Infinity Castle arc. Indeed, with Tanjiro and the Hashira having fallen into Muzan’s eponymous lair following his peculiar attack on Ubuyashiki, the Demon Slayer calendar will be loaded with bloodbaths from here on out.

But these stakes won’t be rolling out on the small screen; as rumor suggested, the Infinity Castle arc of Demon Slayer will be split into a trilogy of movies, all of which have secured a global theatrical release thanks to the combined efforts of Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

To say that the Demon Slayer Corps’ finest (and most tragic) hour is being put on an unprecedented pedestal is an understatement, but when will we all be able to drink in such an event—complete with Ufotable’s legendary animation—on the big screen?

Is there a Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle film release date?

At the time of writing, there is no confirmed release date for any of the entries in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle film trilogy. Suffice to say, however, that this information appearing on the Sony Pictures calendar will be a delectable payday for the company.

The first Demon Slayer movie, Mugen Train, nabbed over $500 million at the worldwide box office, and while the haul of subsequent films To the Swordsmith Village and To the Hashira Training paled in comparison, those lower numbers can be chalked up to the latter two being compilation films (i.e. half of each of those films were just reruns of the corresponding current season’s finale, followed by the next season’s first episode). And while Mugen Train‘s story was eventually adapted to the anime series, that wouldn’t happen for a whole other year, and so the film was the only thing carrying the Demon Slayer story forward in a meaningful way for a time, hence why so many went to go see it.

The Infinity Castle film trilogy, meanwhile, looks to be the only form that the manga arc’s adaptation will take, and given that this is the climax of the entire series, Demon Slayer fans old and new will no doubt be lining right up for this. Enjoy that box office record while you can, Mugen Train.

The scarcity of Spy x Family mugs out there is criminal. Thankfully, though, the Crunchyroll store actually happens to have one of the best. This cute mug not only shows Anya and Bond — arguably the two cutest characters in anime right now — but also includes a bunch of graphic elements alluding to the show, such as Anya’s penguin toy. It’s the kind of mug that will remind you of your comfort anime. However, if you want subtle merch, this mug is not it — but I’d proudly show it to everyone nonetheless.

Oshi No Ko‘s vintage mug

Now, for all the Gen Z’ers in the room, I have the perfect Y2K mug for you. This Oshi No Ko Amazon cup has a really cool and nostalgic design, almost reminiscent of early 2000s shirt designs that are now called “vintage.” Stab in the heart aside, this Ai Hoshino mug is not only the perfect merch for our favorite animated Japanese idol, but also an ode to the second season of the anime, which is already set for its 2024 release.

This My Hero Academia mug is possibly the most relatable piece of merch on this list. Granted, Hunter x Hunter isn’t the most relevant anime in 2024, considering the manga’s dire lack of updates. However, when I saw this heat-changing mug at Walmart, I couldn’t help but add it to this list. In our opinion, heat-activated mugs are some of the coolest merch items out there, and this one activates green flames behind Gon to match his iconic green attire. The only way we could think to make this better is if there existed a blue Killua mug to match, but no pressure, Walmart!

One Piece Chopper mug

One can never have too many One Piece mugs — especially when there are so many cool ones on Amazon. For the sake of your wallet, this is our last One Piece pick though, and it just so happens to be a ceramic cup with a wooden lid! It has a lid, everyone! There are also three variations: Chopper’s is pink, Zoro’s is green, and Luffy’s is white. Personally, I think Chopper’s is the cutest, but Luffy’s is a good runner-up.

Attack on Titan‘s most useful mug

Attack on Titan’s last episode might have aired six months ago, but we’re still grieving our time together with the Survey Corps — and surprisingly, all the Titans. Now that we’re getting used to life without AOT, at least we can get the ODM gear blades of mugs with this green multifunctional Walmart mug. Zenitsu Agatsuma is not the bravest person out there. You don’t need to be the biggest fan of Demon Slayer to pick up on that. The anxious young man often expresses fear and reluctance whenever he faces danger. He can only unlock his true combat abilities and fight demons while unconscious, or in a state of extreme fear. 

Despite wielding the Thunder Breathing Style and specializing in lightning-fast sword techniques, Zenitsu is exceptionally timid. However, this carefree demon slayer’s journey takes a dramatic turn in season 4, episode 7.  After receiving a mysterious letter carried by Chuntaro, his bird, his demeanor changes. Just what was in that letter that was serious enough to cause Zenitsu to change? 

What was in the letter?

While it has yet to be revealed in the anime, chapter 144 of the Demon Slayer manga reveals that the letter contained the tragic fate of Zenitsu’s master and grandfather, Jigoro Kuwajima. 

Jigoro was the former Thunder Hashira and had trained Zenitsu in Thunder Breathing. Sadly, he committed Seppuku due to the actions of his former student Kaigaku, who strayed from the path of demon slayers. Kaigaku turned into a demon,  and ed the Upper Moon ranks, which is highly frowned upon. But what this also meant is that Jigoro’s training of a Thunder Breathing ultimately led to Kaigaku using his skills for evil under Muzan’s influence. Tragically, Jigoro’s Seppuku was without a decapitator, indicating he endured immense pain before dying, as there was no one to end his suffering swiftly.

What happened to Zenitsu in Demon Slayer?

After reading the aforementioned letter, Zenitsu’s attitude immediately changes. He also ignores Tajiro Kamado, evidently propelled by a personal quest. Although it’s clear that the news of his master’s death devastates Zenitsu, it also ignites a profound and remarkable change in him. His carefree and often fearful demeanor shifts to a resolute determination to honor his master’s legacy, and confront Kaigaku. 

Just like his grandfather, Zenitsu blames himself for Kaigaku’s defection. He believes his presence and abilities contributed to Kaigaku’s insecurity and eventual betrayal, especially since Kaigaku could never learn Thunder Breathing First Form. Vowing to uphold his master’s honor, Zenitsu adopts a more serious and focused attitude, setting aside his fears to take on the challenges ahead.

This character development marks a significant evolution for Zenitsu, who transitions from a timid, comic-relief character, into a more mature and determined warrior. His journey therefore becomes a path of redemption and duty, driven by a deep sense of responsibility and respect for his late master. This pivotal moment not only shapes Zenitsu’s future actions, but also enriches his role within the Demon Slayer narrative.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training arc serves as the third-to-last hurdle before the showdowns in the Infinity Castle and Sunrise Countdown arcs. But guess what? Our favorite demon-hunting protagonist is still stuck dealing with the Hashiras and their crazy training sessions.

Episode 5 saw Tanjiro navigate the challenges posed by three Hashiras. While Tanjiro’s kind-hearted nature and determination impressed Mitsuri, he found himself at odds with Obanai and Sanemi Shinazugawa, the Wind Hashira. Obanai, the Serpent Hashira, had devised a sadistic training regimen to test the young demon slayer’s mettle.

As we saw in the episode, he put Tanjiro through a particularly grueling set-up, making him hit minuscule targets without harming any fellow demon slayers positioned dangerously close to each mark. Obanai’s beef with Tanjiro seems to stem from his inability to handle anyone breathing in Mitsuri’s general direction. Jealousy, much? As for Sanemi, well, he just seems to hate everyone equally. 

Next up on Tanjiro’s Hashira speed-dating adventure is the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima in episode 6. Well, given the track record of the previous Hashira, we can’t help but wonder if he’s going to be another tough cookie. Gyomei looks like a giant monk who might just meditate his enemies to death. 

When is Demon Slayer season 4 episode 6 releasing?

Demon Slayer season 4, episode 6, titled “The Strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps,” is set to drop on June 16, 2024, at 11:15 pm JST.  Considering that this arc is rumored to be the shortest of the season, and we might be looking at a total of just 7-8 episodes, we are practically sprinting to the finale!

What to expect from the episode of Demon Slayer?

As mentioned earlier, Tanjiro will begin his training with Gyomei Himejima in season 4 episode 6. And it looks like Gyomei’s bringing all that serene, monk-like vibe to his training methods. You can expect chants, strict meditations, and some serious muscle work. At the end of episode 5, we already saw Inosuke meditating under a waterfall! But the best part? The gang’s back together for this one as Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu will all train side by side.
