‘He won’t speak to me’: Prince Harry says King Charles & family cut him off

Prince Harry’s recent legal fight over his UK security has sharply increased tensions with his family, leading to a public statement that he is now estranged from his father, King Charles. The Duke of Sussex lost his appeal against the government’s choice to remove his taxpayer-funded police protection when he visits the UK.

This decision, reported by CNN and The Times, made after he stepped down as a senior royal and moved to California in 2020, has become the main issue in the broken relationship. The court also said that even a new risk assessment would not have changed the basic issue of needing security for uncertain future visits.

Harry’s claim that he was treated worse than others did not hold up as a solid legal argument. The rejection of his appeal means Harry must now pay large legal costs, which are more than 1.5 million GBP (approximately $1.9 million). Harry said, “I can’t see a world in which I’d be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”

Harry’s father won’t speak to him

The fact that no other senior royal has stepped back from duties and moved abroad in recent years also ed the court’s ruling. The judges stressed that Ravec’s decisions were a natural reaction to Harry’s choice to leave royal life and live overseas.

While they recognized that Ravec did not follow standard policy, the court found enough reasons for this change, pointing to the unique situation and national security concerns related to Harry’s case.

Harry said, “When that decision happened, I couldn’t believe it. I actually couldn’t believe it. I thought, with all the disagreements and all of the chaos that’s happening, the one thing that I could rely on is my family keeping me safe.”

The heart of Harry’s legal argument focused on what he saw as unfair security arrangements compared to other of the Royal Family and other high-profile people. He claimed that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which handles security decisions, unfairly reduced his protection even though there were real threats against him, including a recent death threat from Al-Qaeda and a chase by paparazzi in New York City.

Harry’s military service in Afghanistan also added to his worries about his safety. His legal team argued that Ravec ignored expert security advice and used a customized security process that was unfairly strict. The judge agreed that Harry made strong and emotional arguments and understood his feeling of being “treated badly,” but ultimately ruled there was no legal reason to overturn Ravec’s decision.

The security problem has badly damaged Harry’s relationship with his family, especially with his father. In interviews after the court’s decision, Harry clearly said King Charles stopped talking to him because of the ongoing security dispute. Harry said, “I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

Harry said, “it is the only thing that’s left. Of course, some of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things. But, you know… I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
