Colorado bass owes much of its explosion to the popularity of underground hip-hop in the area about a decade ago, but this might be Big Gigantic's biggest foray into it yet. The livetronica outfit have certainly collaborated with emcees in various capacities in the past, but "Miss Primetime" ft. Pell is undeniably a rap song.
I get that it's hard to stay relevant in the oversaturated world of electronic music, but Sultan + Shepard are just resorting to desperate measures at this point. It's not like the Canadian EDM duo has recently put out the most challenging music in the first place, but "Love Me Crazy" ft. Gia doesn't even make sense as one of their releases.
It's good to see Will Sparks return to what he's known for. The Melbourne bounce DJ/producer went a bit too experimental with the Alex Jones-featured "My Time" earlier in the month, but he's managed to work Luciana's verses into "Stay Up Till The Mornin'" much more effectively.
Well, Carnage has really out-Carnaged himself this time. The notoriously outspoken DJ/producer apparently intended to cash in on the pure trance movement by putting out a Timmy Trumpet collaboration titled "PSY Or DIE" - but while the song features trance elements, it's definitely a far cry from actual psytrance.
If you were fortunate enough to find yourself on the Croatian island of Split for Ultra Europe last weekend - well then, good for you. The rest of us can still enjoy much of the weekend's music, at least, now that several of its live sets have reached the masses.
For what will likely be the electronic music performance of the year, deau5 and Eric Prydz are slated to perform a live set together at Tomorrowland Belgium tomorrow. Fans of either artist have been anticipating the spectacle for months, and both producers have now taken to social media to stoke our interest one final time.
San Fransisco's most celebrated ghettotech label has just announced more details of the second annual edition of their flagship event. The Claude VonStroke-headed Dirtybird Records has released the phase 1 lineup for the 2016 installment of the Dirtybird Campout, which will make for a decidedly underground alternative to mainstream festivals.
A-Trak's been on something of a future house kick lately, and Los Angeles duo Phantoms appear to have been onboard. The three of them have released a remix of Bingo Players' 2011 song "Cry (Just A Little)" that fits it for music enthusiasts of 2016.
As little as I enjoy most of Marshmello's music, I can it that he occasionally puts out something worth the hype. He clearly demonstrated what not to do with his remix of Anne Marie's "Alarm" two weeks ago, but the one he's released for Albanian Kosovar singer Era Istrefi's "Bonbon" is sweeter than s'mores.
The songs of English "virtual band" Gorillaz worked their way into mainstream music fans' collective queue a handful of times over the course of the aughts, and they've even managed to retain a remarkable degree of relevance in the wake of the EDM explosion. Now that the dust has settled they're planning to release another album, and by the looks of things it's right around the corner.
